Hey ladies , I may or may not be familiar to you all. I'm a bit sporadic with posting but I have a dilemma. I think I may be having a quarter life crisis! lol I kid, it's not that deep . It's just that I think I have totally lost interest in my current career which is in graphic design, I would love to work in either the music and/or fashion industry but I'm not sure where to start, or if it's worth it to start all over and work my way up again. So I was just wondering if anyone had similar experiences and if so what did you do? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm always preaching how bad the economy is and how these days you shouldn't bounce without a plan. With that said, maybe you should go back to school, and get the basics of business management or fashion design or focus on something that will benefit you during the transition, while keeping your current position. You could also find creative outlets to use your current knowledge like doing graphic design work for a fashion magazine or and industry magazine, like source for example. You could also try to do stuff for fashion shows or charity events that surround either the fashion or entertaiment industry. That way you can break in softly without completely throwing away your current career. Good luck.

Good ideas Allegra. What about your career don't you like? Is it the company or the industry itself? What about the music and fashion idustry do you like? Are you passionate about either of those or do you just like them because they seem exciting?
I am making a career change and it's kind of hard

I'm with you, don't bounce unless you have a sure thing. As far a s music you can do graphic design in the industry album covers and all that promo stuff. I guess your opportunities also depend on where you live.....If you don't have kids you are at an advantage since you have plenty of time to go back to school during your off work hours.
I would start with a list of what your ideal job is and then begin searching for jobs that entail items on your list.

I was going to actually start a discussion on the same thing....On one hand, I know I should stay where I'm at and on the hand I want to switch. Belle Femme, I don't know where you are from but I think in NYC it is soooo hard to switch careers especially if you live by yourself with no roommates. The cost of living is so expensive here to switch careers and build your way back up :( Music and fashion are hard careers because they pay shit to begin with (or nothing at all) because they know that so many people are trying to break in.

My question is does anyone know of any 16-18mth programs that when finished can put someone on good ground or atleast stable ground? I know some healthcare careers can pay well after the first year as well as some paralegal positions. Anyone else with any ideas?

Thanks for all the advice given so far, I still enjoy graphic design and will probably continue to do it as a side hustle. The idea of going back to school has crossed my mind but being in my mid 20's I'm not that comfortable with going back to a college campus. I don't know the exact position title but I would like to conceptualize stage performances, set design, etc., for concert tours, award shows, fashion shows ( the more theatrical ones) , etc., and if I did go back to school what would be the appropriate major?

theater or drama depending on the university, you will get a lot of technical info for the behind the scenes work.

There is always teaching, if you can handle it. If you have a degree most states have a program where you agree to teach for a few years and they will pay for you to take the ed classes you need. Teaching makes a decent amount and you will never get laid off :) Keeping in mind the pay is only for 10 months, which is why people freak out in comparision to other jobs.

I know when I was in college our night classes were all mixed ages, not the day ones so much. You could take those classes, there are also a ton of online options now, you could look into that also.

Thanks again, now I am seriously contemplating going back to school. Now I have to come up with a plan like which schools to apply to, @ slim I'm currently in Arlington, VA but I am seriously planning to move, especially since I will be switching careers, industries and income lol. @ sugar I do mostly web-design what did you need help with? Thanks goldfish for the blog link.

Aww, I'm so glad you're motivated. BA is like a little sorority or a secret society or something, wherever you go in the world one of our sisters is there if you need them. Good luck to you in all you pursue.

It's a hot mess of a MISS. I agree about Ciara being able to pull it off. She has definitely lost way too much weight and her hair is atrocious in this pic. That style does NOT work for everyone.
