Depending on hair NYNB once a month may even be too much ! At one point I was trimming my hair so often I didn't see the growth. Jus because you r end maybe rough etc... Doesn't mean you have to trim it. Only trim when you have split ends. Other than that you can go longer. I'll give you the name of the product I use.

Your nutrition is also key. Eat lot's of cucmbers and cucmber juice. They are good for hair growth. Also, olive oil and vitamin E. Foods with pectin and gelatin. Apples and Jello etc. You must have some to make your hair grow. Too much trimming is not good. Trim only a little. If you trim too much then your hair can stop growing. Every one is quick with the scissors. You need to have a satin or silk pillow case and if you can protect your hair with a satin hair cap at night that would be great. Even 50% of the time helps. Curly hair will as I like to say "kiss itself" and tangle so you must be gentle and comb/brush your hair with moisture in it. My sister and I are natural and men tell us our hair is beautiful. Use fresh lemon juice and honey as shampoo. But becareful about the pulp. Strain the fresh lemon juice because it can take days to get the pulp out if you are not careful. You can also use fresh watermelon juice. It acts as a natural curl relaxer and makes my hair shiny and straight for weeks. Good luck! And try east indian hair care websites. I havent had a perm n three years so I feel ya. Its simple, wash you hair every other week, keep your scalp oil (not 2 much u dont want to weigh down ur hair) & massage n the oil all over hair. I usually use olive oil. Also dont add too much heat to ur hair. Using to much heat cause breakage & damaged to the hair, like that infamous enemy of ours called split ends. If you flat iron ur hair everyday or every other day u may want 2 cut back & just wrap ur hair. If you dont feel like wraping ur hair get a satin cap or satin pillow. Trust me!!
