Spinoff...Obama resigns from his church

  • Rating: No Rating
What issues are most important to you in this most historical presidential election? What 1 single issue do you feel needs to be addressed for YOU to be whole as a citizen of these United States of America? You never know who is "lurking" and it is a great opportunity to express your opinion...Change starts with "WE THE PEOPLE...."

Theoretically, but in principal, it does not. What have we done to invoke change in the last decade. When we as a people sat in horror, but silence and watched New Orleans and its precious inhabitants reduced to a fate unkind to animals. It's great to be excited about the political climate, but it's bigger than the election. What do we do if Senator Obama wins and what do we do, if he does not?

It's also, difficult to use as a launching pad, the preamble to the flawed body of law that did not contain people who looked like you and I. Even with it's 27 amendments, the U.S. Constitution leaves a lot to be desired. Sure I invoke the constitution regularly as I make my pleas before judges in three jurisdictions. But the reality remains, that may not be the best place to start.

My point topic isn't about Obama, it's about being American. About being a US citizen and the entire election supposedly based on the "needs of the people and our country" and although healthcare appears to be a major issue, unfortunately it is not what is the most important issue for some. Taxes may be of concern to many, but not everyone owns a home. Gas, but to residents that rely on public transportation to nake their way through the day to day it's not as important. So what is it that the everyday joe needs to be whole?

Gas...I honestly have not worked since around '02, but just the cost of gas (and its affect on the pricing of other items, such as, groceries) is forcing me to go back to work and place my son in daycare
:-(

I understand. My response wasn't about Obama. I just ended posing a question. My point is it's bigger than this election and tragic if the discussion starts and ends with any one campaign. Also, as are issues are multifluous and multidimensional they cannot possibly just be answered by a presidential election. Realistically what affects us on a daily is handled by the local elections and many people do not even subscribe on that level.

That is serious and I think too many people are forced into making similar decisions. While we are being sidetracked by the sideshow of politics we all have real issues that do not even come close to being addressed.

And that is exactly why African Americans take offense when people state we are only voting for Obama cause he's black. I had to politely remind someone that made such a "pitiful" assumption, that I am a woman too. And although it is more complex we have to start somewhere and explain it in terms a "6th grader" can understand and appreciate. Not everyone is educated and politics is not an easy subject to understand. With that being said, we HAVE to have dialogue that "common" everyday individuals will not be intimidated by and feel they are making a worthy contribution to the political process and not just by casting a ballot.

And that is the purpose of my post. I don't want people to see "Esq." next to your name and feel intimidated about expressing their opinion.

You clearly have done your research, but I would confidently say you are in the minority. For many people, their research of Senator Obama's platform stopped at the visual. And as for being female as well as African-American, we have placed a premium on race suffering in our culture, in a way that we have not embraced gender. Most people believe that they can separate being black and female like it's icing and cake, when it's far more complex than that. We have not even delved into the issue of gender issues in our culture. If so, we would be doing some serious mobilizing around the issue of sexual abuse/violence which affects far too many sisters. And in this case, the speaker is not exempt!

Speaking of lurkers . . . ;)

It's very hard to pinpoint a specfific issue; contrastly, problems that hit close to home for me as a recent college graduate would be the surging gas prices, quality health insurance and advocacy for [all] minority groups. But in retrospect, these problems are recurring and have worsened due to avaricious decisions made by our government as a whole.

The United States social problems fall under an umbrella of indifference and most importantly apathy. And because the President can only do so much (i.e. he OR she is apart of a system of checks & balances) it is ever important that he OR she act as a leader. The next two, maybe three terms of presidency are going to call for the President to make some tough decisions. We can no longer elect bureaucrats who cut deals with insurance, oil, gun and cigarette companies to our disadvantage. What I can appreciate about Barack is that what he lacks in experience he seemingly overcompensates in empathy.

The president should appear to at least SEEM to genuinely care about the citizens of his/her country, and he/she should also be FRANK, speak candidly and have a little zeal or zest.

. . . & both Hillary and McCain are zesty for all the WRONG reasons . . .

I am certainly not attempting to intimidate anyone by Esq. and do apologize for that. I didn't realize when I registered that I was typing my user name. I was just anxious to get into the debate as Baller Alert and I were off line. These are simply my opinions. More than being an attorney, I am a Political Scientist and have been on the trail since Mondale ran for President and got wiped up by Ronald Reagan. For my 18th birthday, me and my friend Sheryl went to register to vote. It really is that deep for me. Please don't take my comments as attacks as even though I am passionate I am open. I'm sure Baller Alert is surprised by my posts as I am really a quiet person. In the future, I will remove Esq. and create a new name.

IDK what's wrong with these people and their beliefs this is just crazy. Reminds me of them thinking that having sex with young girls cures them of aids. That mentality is definitely from the dark ages. SMMFH

Great post OG! I especially love the last paragraph. That's not just when you're trying to get to the next level with a baller, but with any men. If you are reaching just to get him to be exclusive to you, you are failing.
