The picture I posted was of a young lady here in the USA...

The picture you posted is from a totally different Continent under a totally different context...

Hence, the difference is HUGE!

1. It is not a cultural norm here in the USA for women to engage in everyday activities without their shirts on.
2. It is not a cultural norm here in the USA for women to take pictures of their children cupping their breast and then posting the image on the internet for all to see.
3. It is not a cultural norm here in the USA for women to expose themselves to their minor children; not even as a joke, for fun or to make hay for the internet.

Here in the USA, when a women takes a nude picture of herself with her male child in the same shot, her character and parenting abilities are taken into question because we live in a domestic, civilized society.
Now, the picture you posted has lots of cultural meaning to it. What uncivilized nations considers normal isn't necessarily the same for industrialized and cultured societies...

I get your point in your response to EB, however, I kind of take offense to the use of the words "civilized" and "cultured" versus "uncivilized" when you compare US culture to African culture.  It implies that because they have a different way of life that they are inferior or that their beliefs are somehow lacking.  No bueno.

I agree with this as well. Just because a culture is not industrialized does not neccesarily make it uncivilized... as far as civility I would probably guess many communities here in the good ole USA are way more uncivilized than what is represented in the picture above.

 I agree that the original pic is outta line and I agree with ll25.  As for #3, there isnt a minor child in the USA that hasnt seen their mother naked.

Here in the US... are are governed by laws.. albeit, most stem from cultural and moral norms, however, laws non-the-less...

As for my use of the words uncivilized, industrial and cultured, these words were used as a means of separating the two countries... not as an attempt to put down one culture/ way of life over another.

The fact to the matter is that there are CULTURAL differences.  The US is an INDUSTRIALIZED nation that views, sees and takes on issues differently than countries that aren't or aren't as industrialized as she is...

In terms of some communities in the US not being as civilized as some countries in Africa... I'll give you that one with a HIGH 5! A lot of communities have taken on the White Man's barbaric ways of settling and resolving issues ... The way that some communities here in the states handle/ resolves issues would not fly in some African countries as there is a hierarchy, a level and matter of respect, and basic common sense ways to handling things...
