I've been dealing with this guy since HS.

He's my first love.

He wanted to buy me a bag for my birthday. I said MK was fine. He is a label whore and was like, naaaa Gucci or LV.. . So I say Gucci is fine. I pick out a bag. He said he'll get it by Friday.

So he just text me 4 other bags, that's NOT the bag I picked out. I like duffle or hobo style bags. He's sending me totes and other s***. I'm like, na na na. And send him the two that I picked out (for him to chose one). He says, "eff it, i made an executive decision. i left the store." So I say, "i hope it's not none of the bags you sent me." And unfortunately it was. And he was completely turned off by my statement.

Was I wrong for that?

Why ask someone what they want, if you're just going to get something else? O_o

I was going to get him an iPad for his bday. Luckily I told him before I bought it...he said he didn't want that anymore that he wanted a watch. Show'd me exactly which watch he wanted...so should I go get him a different watch by the same designer???

Guh.

LOL @ getting him a different watch.  Im like that too.  I KNOW I may not like what you get me so I'm usually specific (like you were).  I've said something along the same lines like you have, and ppl (usually family) say you just have to take what is given to you - it's a gift. I also tell them to get me a gift receipt in case I don't like it.  A lot of the guys Ive dealt with usually send me pictures and I'll verify that I like it.  My ppl understand that im picky.  Even my dad, I tell him do not buy me anything cuz I may not like.

Just tell him you like what you like, just as he likes what he likes and you weren't trying to be ungrateful but its no need in buying you a gift you don't like.  Ask him how he would feel if you bought him the IPAD instead of the watch because thats what YOU want him to have.

A friend sent me roses for my bday.  Ive always told him I think theyre a waste of money, even though they're prety - so when I got them, the first thing he said was " I know, I know - but Its something that I wanted to get for you.  I say, ok, but I hope that wasnt my gift and he just laughed.

He sent you pictures of the bags for you to choose and you said you did not like the bags. You picked out the bags you liked before he even went to the store. He was being lazy. Men don't like to shop. Getting the bag you wanted probably would have meant going to another store and he didn't want to go the extra mile.

He should have gotten you the MK and called it a day. Just tell him you appreciate the gesture but really, you're fashion style does not go with the bag he picked out. Gift receipt pretty please? Then return for what you really want.

I think that asnwer pretty much somes it up.  Yall ever watch 'what not to wear'?  Just because you dont like somethng doesnt mean it wont look good on you.  He likes it and he wants to see you in it/with it/ whatever....  on the other hand, it's REAL HARD to rock some stuff you dont like  lol More than likey, it will just sit somewhere for YEARS collecting dust.  On that note, I'm going to say "pick your battles wisely" ....its just a bag.

I agree.  All of that 'get back' mess will just turn this bullsh*t into something serious

Thanks y'all. I swear imma get him that watch in a different style. Smh
See how he likes the s***.
Like, why even ask me which one I wanted if you were going to pick out something else?!
That's like telling me we are going to to have Sushi and you take me to get Mexican. O_o

no, not really. This guy bought me a bag one time (not the re-niggin' ass negro) and I told him I didn't like it. He told me he doesnt like to return stuff but he did. I mean if I kept it and never carried it then what? he would keep asking me why am I not carrying the purse he bought. So I dont think it's being ungrateful , ESPECIALLY since you told him what bag you wanted!

But i think it also depends on who gives me something and what it is. Like if someone gives you a Mother's Day gift of some purfume or something. That's something you can take and say "aw thanks!' knowing you wont wear it. Instead of scrunching your nose like "ug! Shalimar! WTF?!?!!??!" some gifts you gratiously take and put away in your dresser or something, or re-gift to someone else.

OMG!!  LMAOOOO ....aint that the STANKEST SH*T EVER! lmao  This lady in the perfume department told me that's the #1 perfume men purchase for women

LOL, this made me remember when my dad bought me some shoes when I was 7/8 that I didn't like.  I told him in the store that I didn't like the shoes, but he liked them and bought them anyway.   My mom took me to take them back(obviously she didn't like them either) and my dad kept asking me why I never wore the shoes.  I finally told him, when i was about 17, that we took the shoes back.

i used to like Shalimar when I was little. My daughter bought me White Diamonds for a mothers Day gift. I keep it on my vanity so she can still see it and sometimes I let her see me spray a little on. Now, that's the type of thing where you dont act ungrateful like "white diamonds? white diamonds. C'mon."You just smile and say "Thank yoooooou!"

I use to work for this woman who wore Shalimar and that mess turned my stomach.  I use to like white diamonds back in the day

Lol! Then you slap whoever was there and allowed her to buy it.
