That major networks can't show a strong black couple? If they have a show with a black man or woman in the leading role the person is either single or involved with a non black parter. For black men it is normally an Asian woman many Hispanic. For black women it is a white man or Hispanic man that is close to white. Is white America afried of strong black couples Like the obama's or even will and jada?

We did have shows with characters like that. Remember the UPN network?

The Twilight Zone - Host Forrest Whitaker

The Game

One On One

Half N Half - Dad's wife and ex-wife were black. Everyone dated black men and women.

Moesha - Whole damn cast was black

The Parkers - Nikki ran after the black college professor the whole dang show

Eve - They had a token white chick

Love, Inc

Cuts

The Hughleys

Between Brothers - all black male cast

So we had a network that showcased blacks in strong roles and evidently enough of us didn't watch it. My question is: why with all the money the black athletes and entertainers have, why didn't they form a conglomerate and save that network? They could have made it the first all black network.

"Let's stay stay together" is a decent show that potrays a positive AA couple.

"Reed Between the Lines" - all black cast & two successful married people.

"Lincoln Heights" use to come on ABC Family, I loved that show

There aren't very many family orientated shows on tv at all, not like it was in the 90s where we had TGIF and they showed all the "family shows".  Now everything is a cop drama, reality show, or sci-fi based series.

Agreeing with everything said... WE as in black folks, don't support black shows as we should... I started watching "Let's stay together" just because, and I eneded up liking it...

IMO, we ( again black folks) get a little money and try to act like we are above what's seen on TV. Tyler Perry has a few sitcoms on TNT...

Plain and simple, even if we don't watch it, turn your tv's to the shows with all or predominantly black casts if you want to keep them on air...

I Am talking about shows that are not necessarily all black.

Who cares???? We can't complain about "their" shows when we don't support our shows...

And on that note...

Ok so what? On those non-black shows one spouse is always cheating on the other or the other spouse has a drinking problem and isn't happy, do we really want to see a black couple where one of the spouses is cheating or secretly battling an adiction???? Just for the sake of having "us" represented?? I'll pass on that.

My only gripe with "us" on television is this: We know how some of white america sees us, so they are going to write our roles to fit their stereotypes and its not necessarily out of hatred just out of lack of knowledge, now when "we" make our tv shows they should at least try to combat some of these stereotypes, instead of going along with them (ahem, The Game). I'm not saying be ashamed of who we are, BUT show the other side and still be funny and the majority of the AA shows named above showed our other side  and the did very well.

The Cosby show is a show the reps a strong black marriage ... its been running for years ... and yes the game etc .... but they are interacial couples now on TV ... coco and ice tea ... Lamar and his Kartrashain .. lol

What I've noticed, on the networks that I watch (b/c it depends on the channels you're watching), it's usually a black man with a "racially ambiguous" woman. She usually looks like she is hispanic or she's straight up white. Usually I'll see a black woman with a black man, and sometimes with a white man. I've also noticed that when there is a black character on a mainly all white show, it's a black man. And another recent trend I've noticed is making that token black male character gay. I see more positive images of black women and black families in TV commericals. They tend to represent black women with natural hair and family oriented with wholesome black husband and kids. It seems to me that black men get more supporting and leading roles on TV shows than black woman. Black women tend to be extras. But I do notice that there are more black woman in movies. I don't think it's fair, but it's all about marketing trends, and it will likely change. They are trying to get Black men to buy more products, images, or concepts.
