I transitioned for two years, I got highlights in February 2010, the bleach broke my hair off terribly this year and I ended up chopping off everything, even thr progress from two years of transitioning. I now have a soft curly fro underneath my sew-in. The pros for me are:

 

less damage from chemicals

versatlity with styling

 

The cons are:

 

sometimes, it takes longer to style (because I can't just throw it in a ponytail).

Making sure my curls stay hydrated

the length for me (right now it's a short fro, i can't wait until I get more length to do more styles).

I'm relaxed, have been for over half my life (my mom made the choice for me when I was a young teen).  I wrestle with going back natural, especially times like right now when my hair is in dire need of a touch up and combing it is a chore with going between the textures and watching the excessive shedding.  I also hate paying so much for up keep!  But I'm not in a place where I can devote a lot of time to maintaining my hair if I do the "big chop" so I'll be sticking with the "creamy crack" for the forseeable future.
