For Women Who Want The Ballerific Life!
Straight to the point..I'm not doing well in my math class...At this point, I'll be happy with a C, (which I don't want) which should tell you well I'm NOT doing. How would you approach your instructor on making a better grade. I only have one class period left so I'm trying to think of how, or if even I should approach him.
This is my second semester with him, and our class only has 5 people left. I'm not talking about having sex with him, although for an A, I might - (I care about my grades), but I'll pay him. Has anyone approached their instructor about "extra credit", and how did it go. How would yall proposition your instructor for a better grade.

I suppose you could buy or sleep your way to a better grade but you still wont know the material. I care about grades but only in the sense that it lets me know how well I know the material
Permalink Reply by MS. UCAN NEVA GET ENUFF!! on July 26, 2012 at 11:41pm It's intermediate algebra. Who the f*** needs to know.. square roots raised to the 30th power, squared and divided by the square root of 37.9. I ain't neva used any of this b******* in MY real life. The school I was going to transfer to I would have needed 3 more maths for my degree, (and would need to know it), but I decided on another because I would only need one more, which won't be any of the bullshyt I half know now.
I was going to drop it but it was pass the point and i couldn't get a F, so I decided to stick it out and try and work on a "C"

Permalink Reply by University of Smitty on July 26, 2012 at 11:55pm The thing about algebra isnt so much about how often you'll use it. Algebra teaches you how to break things down to solve a problem. Long term, it improves critical thinking skills more so than math skills. I loved advance math classes but I like puzzles period.

sn: algebra is relevant to life!
Permalink Reply by DdoubleD on July 27, 2012 at 7:21am OMG I head this problem. I had to take math 2x to pass. I even had a tutor(I spent over $1500 trying to learn that s***).
When you know you are stuggling in a course or the course is not your stong point you have to begin to kiss early. The first day of class I always introduce myself to the instructor. "Hi Im________, I am really excited about the sememster. I have always struggles with math, but I am determined to do well." Sit in the front, make sure you go to every damn class (even if you don't know what the teacher is saying), and always ask 2 to 3 questions per class. If you get a bad grade on the test, go to the instructor and ask them to go over the ones you got EVERYTIME you get a bad grade!
When the class is almost over go to the instuctor and ask "I would like to know honestly, how well I am doing. I was expecting to get an A in this course, but is it possible if I can even make a C? This class is so important to me bc I do not receive a C I will not be able to transfer." Feel em out and give the sad face!
Yes I am a brown noser and I have received higher grades then I actually earned by using this technique. If the person has any heart they will try to help you out. But then sometimes you have the bishes that will give you a B when you have an 89.7 in the class!

Permalink Reply by University of Smitty on July 27, 2012 at 9:31am Exactly!!! We learn all there is to know about math by the 3rd grade......how to add, substract, multiply, and divide. Algebra is about learning how to think and follow directions. We need to master following directions for LIFE!!!!
I took Trig in the 11th grade. In the 12th they put me in Pre-Cal and talk about intimidation....lol After the first class I went to my GC and told her I had never taken Geometry. She was shocked that I passed Trig without it but hey........I can follow directions with the best of them

In a nutshell, I think you should be honest. Ask your instructor is there anything you can do REALLY QUICK to improve your grades. Not sure of your relationship but even make a light joke, "I'll even pay you" and laugh it off. (It's not what you do it's how you do it). If you have to do the extra credit hopefully you can work hard to get it done. If you get a C hey it's passing but at least you tried. I think you should just be staright up. The worst thing that could happen is that your instructor says there's nothing you can do, but pre-pare yourself for that. I am hoping for the best for you! Good Luck
