For example, in 2001 a jury awarded a distraught spouse $1.4 MILLION under the anti-jumpoff law. If this is the story that I am thinking of this jumpoff PURSUED this married man. She lost weight, changed her hairstyle to mirror his wife and everything. These jumpoffs are scandalous and not in a good way. Cheers! Now lets see if its enforced across the board.

I notice I don't see CA, NY, FL, TX or other states with major league ballers in residence. That should be a federal law across the board for all states. smh

Who's supposed to pay for these damages??? I have met countless married men who go to great lengths for p****. Not only are they unfaithful husbands but they lie about their name, their jobs, their children, and even their hometowns. Especially for men in the military it's not hard for them to let someone think they are living together if they are stationed in a different country or state than their wife......I have seen it. They need to come up with something better than that anti-jumpoff law cause if you think about it the only winner is the man. HE SHOULD PAY FOR THE DAMAGES TO HIS MARRIAGE!!!

I'd like to see more states adopt this law, particularly, whatever state I happen to be living in.

In Modern Society everything is PUBLIC record to include marital status, if in doubt do your research or pay the price...Yes, i've been had by married men but it's up to you to protect you...And NO if he's married to a business women like myself he'll surely not WIN either...The law covers the WIFE on both ends from the mistress & most definitely the SPOUSE...He'll pay as well IE: Alimony (ensuring the lifestyle i'm already accustom to living) & Child Support...CheckMate!!

I have searched to find the marital status of men before and (on the regular internet) came up empty only to find out they were married.......or they won't give you their whole correct name.....or you find out the name you know them by is a real sounding nick name. I could see why being a married woman you would find security in this law but as a single woman on the dating scene this law sux ass. As if being lied to wasn't enough

I understand, when I was young I had to do a background check on my boyfriend because my grandma thought he was married. Even after I had the proof he denied it.
On the other hand, if my husband were to cheat and the woman knew about me it would be nice to have legal recourse that didn't involve me trying to stomp a h*** in her ass (oh he'd get his too!).

To protect yourself sometimes you have to go a little further than the internet...Registry of Deeds in your county has all public records to include: Marital status, Property owned & Tax liens...Criminal history is also public record...For a minimal fee you can obtain a full credit & criminal background check...It's all according to how bad you really want to know?!
