I think we need to make up our minds about it... I just don't understand why the French like to put black people in those compromising positions? They always do that and get the same reaction from us.

I think the French talk a good game and then the black person doesn't think how it will be perceived in the states. See how it says she's "paying tribute to an african singer", but I wonder if they told her that at the bottom of the article it would say that she did it voluntarily. That's what sparks the controversy, if there was absolutely nothing wrong why would they feel the need to put that at the bottom. That statement right there keeps them from being held accountable.

It's not offensive to me, no matter who does it, but that's just me. As far as putting Bey in "blackface" it's rather an oxymoron to me, because she's already Black. Our race isn't define by the shade of our skin, so to me, it's pointless to put a Black person in blackface to celebrate African roots.

She did blackface in the movie Dreamgirls too. Is it only a problem now b/c the "White French Man" told her to do so? (lol)  I don't see the problem, like GTA said, she's already black.

I'm so confused on this. What was the point they were trying to convey because I'm just lost. Her face is black but the rest of the skin she is showing isn't. Ummm...yeah. What?

To each his own as far as "blackface" is concerned... however, I don't see how this is a "tribute" to a male artist that was a Nigerian activist. Why make a light-skinned black woman darker. They could have used Lauryn Hill or a dark-skinned model for all of that. #imjustsaying

This wasn't blackface, this photo and the entire photoshoot she did in this scene was a tribute to Diana Ross and the exact photoshoot her character did in Mahogany.

 

I just don't think you can really consider a Black person in black (or brown) paint as being in blackface. Blackface is mimicking or a caricature or making fun of Black people done in a derrogatory way. This is not that.
