Could you go back to being broke once you became a real ballerette / baller?

So I was watching Desperate Housewives last night and saw a situation that I'm sure would have me headed to divorce court. Carlos has decided to find himself and quit his six figure job to do social work. So his wife, Gabrielle, has found a lucrative job as a personal shopper for rich men. She has to dress provacatively, which her husband had often asked her to do for his clients. Now her social working husband has a problem with it and doesn't like her job. The feeling I'm getting is that he would prefer for them just to cut back and be broke. They did a season with a broke Gabrielle and it wasn't pretty. She is my favorite housewife and I prefer her fabulous. lol

So Gabrielle's character came from a poor background and is now faced with going back to broke. I couldn't do it. Call me shallow and callus, but I've done broke and all I got out of it is that I don't ever want to be broke again.

So could you go from riches to rags?

Broke ain't pretty and sometimes you have no choice. Gabby should have stashed some cash when he was in prison when she found the money he was hiding and she burned  his passport lol

Personally I can't, that's why I'm careful with my spending because you never know.

LOL I agree. That is the problem with a lot of people, they always think the gravy train is never going to stop.

But $picey, he would know she stashed it now and she'd still have to share. I was looking at him real crazy when he first said he was quitting his job to give back to the community. I was like, we already did broke Gabby...me no likey. lol  Everything is better with a lot of money on it.

HELL F****** NOOOO!!!!  I mean If I had a choice...but sometimes there's no choice in the matter.   Im not rich, I don't have my Mercedes, but  I have no problem paying my bills and doing a little extra when I want to.  I also have no problem working to make sure my bills are paid.  I have a couple dollars saved, but I still work part-time because you never know what could happen and its not going to last forever....and Im looking for another job.

Funny, I didn't see the whole show, but I saw the part where she was 'sweet talking' the men into buying the extras.  Some men are really not complicated, lol.

SN: Lynette and Tom, can't Tom see once he signs the divorce papers his new girlfriend will try to trap him and turn into Lynette, but less loving and caring? lol

There was a choice in this instance but her hubby said his conscience couldn't handle continuing to take and that he needed to do a job that gave back. She agreed but found a job to make up for the shortfall and he's having a problem with it.  I wouldn't go back and if he could deal with it or we can go our separate ways. Gabby never had a problem finding a rich husband before.

Oh Spicey, you missed it. Gabby made enough to take Carlos out to a fancy restaurant where she ran into one of her clients. She introduced Carlos as her brother and it got ugly from there. She was wrong in that.

Tom's girlfriend took it upon herself to serve Lynette with the divorce papers. I am enjoying this last season of DH. The writers are really doing it up big. I even like Vanessa Williams character.

Then Again, you said REAL ballerette.....ummm, no ma'am.  Im going to work and continue to work to do what I need to continue my lifestyle.  I can't be driving my Mercedes, then have to downgrade.  If all I have to do is dress up for men and my husband has a problem with it, we may have a problem - especially if he KNOWS im a gold-digging h****.

LOL Exactly! Now that I've begun to taste a bit of the fruits of my labors I understand why rich people jump off buildings when they go broke. It is hard to go from everyone knowing your name to begging for scraps.

one word, no.

I think this happens to a lot of people.  Most of these so call "ballers" are living above their means.  If you have a 6 figure salary for 5 + there's not reason you should be broke!  I consider myself low income, but if I lost my job today I can hold it down for at least a year without a problem!

I will just say this... if you are unhappy with the money the way you make it may make you unhappy. I know people who may have not gone "broke" but downsized their lifestyle and they are "happier" because they are more fulfilled in other areas of life.

I think it depends on the situation. Like for Carlos it is about him being happy and fulfilled. I would like to own my own business one day, so I know I would have downsize until I can get off the ground. If it is ultimately for the greater good of your own mentality, personal, spiritual, or physical happiness.

But if you have no choice like a wrong investment type of thing than hell naw. I would have been like the Jack Johnson (the councilman’s wife in Maryland) stuffing money in my panties!!! LOL

Side note - Lynette should have let that b**** choke episode before last!
