i ususally alternate between shellac and silk wraps. so far, no damage to my real nails, and shellac lasts me for about 3 weeks.

Weak. The more gel I put the weaker they got. They are not something I recommend.

Thank you, Siren, for the information. I actually just chipped both the overlay and my real nail last night and when I try to see if I could "pull" it off, it really hurts! Now, I'm wearing a band aid over that finger until I figure out how to get the chipped nail off...=/

My best advice would be to file it down as much much as possible in that spot without filing down to the nail. When I had that issue that is what i did and after i thinned it down i was able to peel it off without taking to much of my top layer of nail off. Look at Zoya it is formulated for natural nails.
