For Women Who Want The Ballerific Life!
Back in school, getting yet another degree... anyway this week's discussion in my Cultural Diversity class was about genocide... it referenced of course hitler and the Jews... Turkey vs. Armenia, etc... then asked has there been instances of Genocide in America... i decided not to go the easy route and discuss the American Indians... I chose the genocide of blacks in America...
here's an excerpt of an article I found online...
"Indirect genocide, then, can be expressed in part in the self-destructive adaptations of victim groups to the deprivations of life inflicted upon them by the larger society. In these situations, the victim group appears to be the cause of its own problems and the role of larger social conditions is discounted or ignored entirely."

The thing is they were trying to do it themselves they are too cowardly to come like they want to so they use these "social ills" if you will stack to all the cards against as many of us as they can. Create the most unhealthy living conditions with no family structure, having people fighting for survival, flooding the community with narcotics... lets not even get into the whole crack thing that they DESIGNED on purpose to incarcerate our men while their men financially flourished (and still do)

those are some of the same points I used as reference...
Siren said:I absolutely agree with this...and the genocide started with them importing the drugs into our communities. The design of public housing & public assistance. The systematic way that they have been incarcerating our men the whole set up of the prison industrial complex and well hell all the s*** started when they brought us over stripped us of our culture, religion, and language. I could go on and on and on.

I read somewhere yesterday... two ways to dehumanize someone is to ignore them and the other idolize them. We idolize alot of backwards ass niggas that are tearing up our culture.

Suffice it to say I've lived in Baltimore just about my whole life. I can track the rise and fall of this city in my lifetime. I know how it happened and why it continues to happen. Our generation of blacks carry half the blame here. I can't speak for every city of blacks, just this one. Considering Maryland has one of the largest and most affluent populations of blacks that is saying something.

Do you think that our generation would have ended up this way had they not done all they could to further separate us especially after the civil rights movement?

That said, I flip flop on this issue a lot. On the one hand I see and know first hand the role prejudice, racism, and the ethnic marginalization of those of African decent has played in the USA. I also know the role we play in our own destruction. So because I can't decide who is the bigger devil in MY GENERATION, I just split the blame 50/50 between those who discriminate against us and our own selves.
Previous generations, I blame our missteps squarely on those who discriminated against us.

Permalink Reply by Noisy Girl on March 28, 2012 at 2:07pm there is like 10% of the public schools in DC who prepare the general population. And 10% of of charter schools (the data is finally rolling in on their schools.) Not factoring in the gifted and talented children. I think it's worth exploring for your paper. A lot of ppl are turning to homeschooling b/c the proof is clearly out there. Children get conditioned for 8+ hours per day to be who they are.

They know our power and strength they have done everything to make sure enough of of us can't see it in our selves to make a difference like our mothers and fathers did during the civil rights movement. As for the affluent in MD i am very aware and they are trying to make sure that ish doesn't spread either.

I cried for him!

And if they do finish school they are not going to college or just going for a semester or two. Schooling + unworthy idols + lagging social conditions= current problem.

Permalink Reply by CCD is Workin on a baller 4 she on March 28, 2012 at 3:08pm That's nice and all. We also have a large welfare dependent citizenship who do not pay property taxes. They complain about their welfare checks better not be late, while living in section 8 apts that I can't afford and ruining them. I've watched them walk passed an empty trashcan and drop their trash on the ground in their own neighborhoods. I had to move out of my apt because the girls next door were on welfare. First of the month while I'm trying to get into my apartment from work they have their doors open cooking for their boyfriends who don't work and are sitting in the hallway braiding their boyfriends' hair.
I could go on. Like I said, I could write a book. Community? Please. It is a hot ghetto mess around here. But it didn't use to be.

Permalink Reply by Tone © on March 28, 2012 at 3:12pm I don't think it is the schools it the environment that the kids come from that is the real issue. It is easy to see this when you are living in a mid sized city. Because you can easily have kids living in poverty going to schools that are in good school districts and you will see that the kids that don't come from that low income area do better then the ones that are from the low income areas.

Permalink Reply by CCD is Workin on a baller 4 she on March 28, 2012 at 3:14pm Siren, I'm speaking about the most basic levels. Family? Men in Bmore don't get married. They bum from woman to woman and then become bums living in shelters. I pass one every night where able bodied black men stand in line to get a bed. While the generation of black men who came up with me are telling me they quit this job or got fired because they aren't going to have anyone talking to them any kind of way. I've had white people talk to me any kind of way and I'm still here and they got walking papers for various reasons. I'm not saying the system is fair. I'm saying that you don't change it talking about what the white man won't let you do. That is a cop out far too many people use.
