For Women Who Want The Ballerific Life!
Here's the dilemma, my skin has scars to no avail due to the acne that i've gotten in the past year. I use to walk out makeup free and now I can't leave the house without it. I am looking into microdermabrasion or dermabrasion. Have any of you had it before? And if so, how did it work for you? What did it feel like? I'm seriously going through depression here...I;ve tried proactive...and then my dermatologist gave me a foam that worked briefly and yesterday I just spent $90 on Clinique....my father's side of the family has horrid skin, and I'm pretty sure it's hereditary but it's just so annoying....I only drink water and cranberry juice, no sodas....my diet hasn't changed from the usual...so i'm so lost. My dermatologist said it's not really what you eat anyways...I need help!!!!!!
Permalink Reply by Hello Kitty on February 14, 2012 at 5:29pm I have tried the microderm abbrasion, just the ones you take home though by Philosophy and they work ok but honestly the ONLY thing that's ever worked for my adult acne is getting on the pill. Ortho Tri Cyclen is specifically for women with adult acne and my skin glows when I'm taking it. I just moved and lost my prescription, so I didn't take it this month and my skin totally broke out! It's awful.. BUT I gained weight on the pill, so it's like gain 10 pounds and have clear skin or stay thin and have bad skin. They do have a low dosage of the Ortho Tri Cyclen that I'm going to try next that's supposed to help with the weight gain. Nothing else has worked for me and I've tried it ALL!

Try natural balck soap. I love it. It tightens my skins and really cleans it. It is strong and sometimes burns my skin, but yours may not be as sensitive as mine.

It takes 28 days for cell turnover so give everything 4-6 weeks to see some type of result before switching. Not knowing what type of skin you have but assuming its acneic - Ask your dermatologist for a recommendation (if they dont do it) for a cosmetic dermatologist who does chemical peels and has experience with ethnic skin. The peels remove the top layers of skin and thus the cells turnover quicker. You usually get them 4-6 weeks apart and should see significant improvement after the 2nd one. Downside is it is a peel, the top layers of skin peel off over the 3-7 days immediately following the peel. Mine was minimal, some peel a great deal. The peeling isnt painful but you may look a little crazy for a day or two...lol
Permalink Reply by AllyNWonderland on February 14, 2012 at 11:03pm THANK YOU!! I swear this may sound ignorant but i was thinking a week i should see changes lol but my mother told me to toss out all my carbs, sweets, liquor and meats and only eat fruits and veggies for a month so i threw it all out today and went grocery shopping for fruits, veggies and water only...ima keep up with this clinique for a month and i have a dermatologist appt on the 28th. Did the peel hurt?

Permalink Reply by Myesha Diamond on February 14, 2012 at 11:32pm I've had microdermabrasion done before. I have a couple spots on my face left on by acne. The microdermabrasion does not help me with breakouts. When I went to the esthetican she pretty much used a machine to remove the top layer of dead skin from face/neck(kinda reminds me of a brillo pad and a vacum). My skin was glowing and I look refreshed, it had my face tight and sore for about 10 mins, they put on a cream and tell you to stay out the sun for 1hr. What helped me with my acne was age. Once you hit a certain age all you have to do maintain your skin regimen and be stress free(for most). I use Clarins for my face and I get a facial twice a month, they have different ones tailored to your skin.
I definately agree with Tracy! I have spots on my face from acne. Even if i dont pick them, they still leave a spot. Everything works different for everybody. The doctor that told you it doesnt matter what you eat or drink, I think he is wrong on that point. Most doctors dont believe in natural healing ,they just give you medication. I have had several people tell me that drinking lots of water helped and that's what I dont do is drink enough water!
Also, washing your face at night too! I use a glycolic moisturizer that I got from the school I'm going to. I love it!
I tried birth control for both weight gain and clearing up my skin and it didnt work for me, so every body is different
I know your pain Im 31 with acne. I tried Proactiv for years. I finally broke down last year and went to a dermatologist. Right now Im on Retin-A Micro .04% pump. It comes in a purple pump and its really strong. So strong that my dr recommended mixing it with a milder strength Retin A. I forgot the strength but it comes in a tube (vice pump). I wouldnt waste any more money on the over the counter stuff. Ive found in bad cases of acne, they dont work. For my scars, I use Mederma and Ambi Fade Cream. I havent tried microdermabrasion though but do ask your dr about the Retin A. Good luck!

Permalink Reply by scmami on February 15, 2012 at 8:17pm Accutane is safe if you adhere to the precautions and it should only be used in people with severe acne who have not seen results via other methods. Basically you have to be on two forms of birthcontrol and you have to get monthly labs done to check your lipids. but if you don't plan on becoming pregnant than it is a good choice. Ask your dermatologist about a rentin-a creme. If you already have scarring from acne that is going to be difficult to smooth out. There is a brand called Cera-ve which is excellent. They have washes and moisturizers for the face and a body creme for the rest. It really holds moisture and rebuilds skin. Good luck!
