Wow and you don't have any idea where these rumors came from? If not, unfortunately there isn't much you can do. You don't have to explain yourself unless your job is being jeopardized. And your colleague is carrying on like a high schooler. Don't let them affect your working environment. Just do your job and leave.

I agree.."just do your job and leave." But, if u are asked, clear it up right then! sometimes if u just let it go the rumor takes on a life of it's own... (trust me I been there) especially if your co-workers have nothing on u... what ppl dont know, they make up.. Just dont let it get to u. these things can get crazy..(it is beyond me how ppl can believe stuff abt ppl they dont know..) Til this day I'm not a big fan of rumors and gossip.. Dat ish almost took my life... real talk.....

I agree with all of the ladies. This colleague of yours is just that -- someone you see fron 9-5, not a friend. Once you leave the office leave the BS too! If this isn't someone you work with directly or often, forget her!

Yeah, since your name is being passed around, you have to tighten up. I know you probably feel like you want to set the record straight, but it will look better if you don't. Stay out of the drama. The truth will come out eventually. Let them keep talking and figure it out- including your "friend/colleague". I say still be cordial and participate in office activities, but work extra hard and continuously produce excellent work product. Oh, FYI, I'd give the colleague the SSE from this point forth.

I agree with all the advice but I think I would take a different approach. You can understand how your co-worker might be a little jealous of you, so why not set the record straight? I would act like I was confiding in her (only if you like her enough to care) and tell her someone spread a rumor that you slept with woop woop and you're pissed off. Tell her you'd never get with him cause you think he's a whore and leave it at that. You don't HAVE to explain yourself to anyone and I feel everyone's advice but it can get really lame at work when you don't have anyone to talk to and rumors are being spread. NO BITCHASSNESS allowed at work.
