as a child of the black church, I know the feelings people have when they feel they have been betrayed by their minister or elders in the church... I've seen scandal after scandal. Some true & Some not so true...

Since the allegations have come out, I have been thinking what is this about? People have always called Long gay & evil... so why now what happened now, what is GOD trying to tell us...

IMO this is about the lack of true communication within the black church on the subject of SEX... the first epidemic of this nondiscussion was teen & unwed mothers... seems as if the new wave is DL men that are afraid to express their true sexuality, so they lead dual lives...

Whatever your feeling are about homosexuality, lets be honest... the Black Church, whether is be Baptist, Catholic, AME,etc., is not the place to be openly gay... How many of us have known seemingly straight men that suddenly die of AIDS (yes I know both heterosexuals and homosexuals can get AIDS) ... How many of us have attended weddings and wondered "i thought he/she was gay"???

I know what the bible says about homosexuality... But I also know that the bible says "a sin is a sin"... So why can't we as Christians let homosexuals out of the closet??? Why is it that your pastor can be an adulturer, a thief, a drunk or a crackhead? but his tail "bet not be gay"????? What makes us think that we are better than them?

I don't know about you, but I have NEVER heard anyone pray that someone loses the spirit of promiscuity... why is that? Why is it that a promiscuous straight person is deemed better than a faithful gay one?

Thoughts?

gota go to work, so I couldn't say everything I wanted to say, but you get the just of it...
so why now what happened now, what is GOD trying to tell us... God is cleaning house!!!!! Once in a while he has to humble his disciples. I'm sure their intentions are for the good of the people when they start out, but along the way when God gives us his blessings we forget to praise and thank him when times are both good and bad.

We give into the deadly sins and the desires of the flesh because it feels good and we're only human
(I'm no saint).

Because God doesn't 'physically check' the men of the cloth (pastors, bishops etc.) they feel they can do what they like, but the always seem to forgot God doesn't sleep and they forget his power.

To answer the gay question, that is all about social acceptance. I'm sure in the future, say about 20 yrs it won't matter.
I understand the cleaning house part... But in general sex isn't really discussed in black churches other than to say "don't do it" ...

but the same bastards telling the kids "dont" are the same ones preying on them, telling them crazy s*** like "GOD wants them to do such n such with them only"

I know quite a few girls that have had sexual relations with grown ass men, that KNEW better... but people looked the other way because he was a man of the "cloth"...

Now young boys are falling prey...

I just feel that if churches had honest open dialogue about SEX, wether it be hetero or h***, less children would fall prey to this type of thing...
Young children (male and female) are always prey for adults in any situation. We hear about young boys more now because this generation and the one before it are not afraid to speak up.

I don't blame the church (or schools) for not talking about sex.
Children's first contact in their lives are their parents and this should be discussed in the homes. I know parents are uncomfortable to speak to their children these days but the have to deal with it because the external forces 'to do it' are stronger and much more in your face these days.
JM, this is a toughy to answer. I think a lot of people found this passage in Leviticus and they've been beating us with it ever since:

Leviticus 20:13 (New International Version)

13 " 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

I don't know what God is trying to tell us. Maybe we need to stop lying to ourselves and be who we are regardless of who or what that is. Understand that you can't do what you want and keep hiding behind "God knows my heart." Yeah, He does. He also knows what you are doing, present tense and He ain't pleased. Maybe. I wish I had the answer.
Sex HAS to be discussed in church... Preachers have sermons that speak of or are dedicated to fornication, adultery, and homosexuality... you can tell kids not to do something, but that doesn't suffice for children that are truly struggling with these issues... especially homosexuality...
I know of a few guys (both teen & adult) that went to their pastor about gay feelings... More than one was "approached" by the pastor...
When you are struggling with something that you are constantly told cerrtain things are wrong but then your pastor, deacon, youth director etc. comes at you, it can be EXTREMELY confusing, whether you are male or female...
I know of both young men & women that have been taken advantage of, and IMO if there were more honest discussions, kids would be better equipped...
I agree with cc, this is tough to answer. Plus I'm not sure what my answer is so I'm just going to comment on your comment. I think the profession itself appeals to individuals struggling with their sexuality, It's a job like any other. But that job comes with hopes of salvation

JM, I hear you but most religions repress ALL SEXUALITY. Some where in the Bible it is supposed to tell you that sex is bad unless it is to have kids. I've read the Bible (King James and New American versions) cover to cover about 3 times now and I ain't found that passage yet. I've been told there are many different versions of the Bible and maybe in one of those versions that is where you'll find that passage. I REFUSE to believe that anything that feels that good can be evil. It is just how people use it that invites evil into it.

But since even heterosexual sex has been villified down through the centuries you first have to get an open dialogue about sex before you can ever get the religious folk to discuss homosexual sex. Unfortunately, the religious folk ain't quite caught up to the 21st century.

I am a spiritual person, not religious so I see things a lot differently. I hope I see things a bit clearer than the average religious person. Only God knows for sure though.

I agree that sex should be discussed. The ministers in my family talk about sex when they have the married couples ministries, but it needs to start before marriage is even discussed. We're told DO NOT HAVE SEX for so long that when you're ready and able, you don't know what to do and make bad decisions and hide out of guilt. Our natural impulses and urges are a gift from God (that's what I was taught by the people in my family).
I looked for it tooo... I was 18 & pregnant with T... this old biddy called him an abomination... welll I couldnt find it & my grandmother told me that is NOT what the bible says... she said thats how David wanted it, but not what God said...
