I think a lot of it has to do with parents having to work their a**** off to make ends meet, so we rely on fast food and packaged products. My son is skinny as a bean pole and eats like a grown man, and people look at me crazy like I don't feed him. Mind you, I was also naturally skinny and his dad is a bean pole himself. Could be genetics. There are so many factors that go into a children's weight and it's so much bigger than just a home cooked meal.  I do agree kids have got to go outside and play more...but dang, these days with all these sickos out there, makes it hard for a parent to let their child out of their sight.

I know exactly what you mean. My "little" cousin weighed 150 at age 6. She's now 7 and has gotten heavier. She has a LOT of health problems. She can barely walk up the stairs w/o getting winded. Her parents are obese as well. I dont think affordable healthy food is the problem in her case. Her mom gets hundreds of dollars in food stamps a month and their fridge and pantry are packed with junk. Not a fruit or veggie in sight. It really hurts to see her eat like she does and with her health issues. I try to help but she's just a kid. She doesn't know any better. It's the parents' fault. I'm thisclose to anonymously calling CPS on them. They are killing her

Her mom was big as well... I mean, here in Texas, they put gravy or BBQ sauce on every damn thing so 9 times out of 10, whatever the parents are eating, the children and/or family pet is eating as well lol when I was younger I was very slim but ate whatever I wanted and it was probably because I was very active. My mom made sure that I was doing some sort of activities at all times. Nowadays it's not so safe for kids to play outside so I get that a lot of parents would rather their child play inside but damn, invest in a wii fit game or two.. I think the issue of technology (like someone else said) plays a huge role in why kids don't go outside and burn off the processed food they're eating as snacks/lunch.. Would you go outside in the heat if you could stay inside, play video games on the couch with the air on and some cheetos? Probably not lol
