Strip Club Waitresses: Why the ignorant misconceptions? **Long Story**

Hey guys!! As long as I have been on this site, which I love, this is my very first post!

I was having a discussion with five people over the weekend during dinner about different gigs that are available and the idea of being a waitress at a strip club came up. Oh man, I was not ready for they outpouring of ignorant judgments, smh. Three people of out of that group made statements like; "A waitress is only once dance or song away from the pole"..."Since society frowns upon that industry, working at The Waffle House is more respectable"..."Waitresses don't make as much or more than dancers so you will be grinding on some "paynusus" in no time, lol"...Mind you this whole time only one of them knew that I work part-time as a waitress in a strip club so they were gearing up for me to go respectfully H.A.M but I digressed and just listened and smiled. So at some point one of them asked me, would I ever work in that type of place? What do I think about the girls that do because they obviously have low self-esteem? Then one asked was F**l* or Ch**ta* open now so we can see the sadness for ourselves, lol? Wooow, is what I thought during this "interesting" conversation. Then once the chuckles died down, I said, "No let's not go tonight, I don't like going there on my night off"..Cue the damn crickets and the rats p***** on cotton, lol!! They did not know what to say. Surely they couldnt take back the things that they had said but they sure as hell tried, lol.

I was more irritated at their lack of understanding from both sides not so much me personally because they weren't directing that comments at me. My explanation simply went; I have worked as a waitress two days a week in a white strip club in Atlanta for 6+ years and it is the best damn gig I've ever had, lol. I have worked in finance and real estate for 12+ years. the most important "pro" has been the network of people that I have built. I have a great personality, charisma and I can actually hold a conversation w/a smile. I have never once been enticed to start "working the pole" that is a personal decision girls make. I don't judge and I love my chics I work with and majority of them are very intelligent and it is a means to an end. I simply make enough not to. Some girls end up doing so because its a fantasy of theirs or they don't want to deal with the "hustle" amongst other waitresses. I don't let assumptions discourage me especially those that don't have a clue about the inside of this industry besides what they've heard. The apologies were uneffective. Needless to say, I'm glad they aren't friends of mine. I was just guilty by association that night. Do any of you ladies work as a waitress or in the industry period?? Thoughts please.

Im thinking about  a waitress job at a strip club.  There is only like 2 good white clubs in my area though, but I dont think I can do the black strip club.   Its a private club so they smoke and Im not sure if I can deal with that..but I may try it out and see - If I can pull 300 a night - I'll wear a wig on top of my weave so it's not all smoked out.

What do you have to lose by trying it out aside from money for a permit unless your city does not require one? I think you should try it out and see how it is. It's no harm in that. The smoke is the only thing I hate in there. I hope OSHA decides to visit us one day to be honest maybe then we will have better ventilation. I always have to keep my Isoplus Hair Freshner in my arsenal.

I didnt know they had that...going to pick that up and stop by the club tomorrow

Yes. Not all of them have that requirement but most cities do. Here in Atlanta its $350 for each club you work at but surrounding areas aren't as pricey. Its called an adult entertainment permit and even valets and cooks have to have them. Just call City Hall in your city and ask for the info. Heck you can even get an escort permit here, lol.

I worked as a cocktail server/bartender at a highend gentlemens club while I was in college. Its was fun, the strippers and staff were cool. The money was great and I met a alot of ballers. I never once considered dancing while working there nor did I show my tits on stage like the other cocktail servers did. However the adult industry is not for weak minded girls, there are alot of men who are seasoned at taking advantage of the fresh meat or naive women.

These clubs already dont want to hire too many black females soo my advice for blacks females trying work in a high end strip club is: This advice applys to all females

No arm, neck, thigh, face tattoos or piercings

No colorful or matted weaves, only black, brown or beyonce blond color. No natural hairstyles like twists or braids (sad but true)

You should look young college aged, fresh faced, tight body, slim

Big Boobs will get you $$$

A Big Ass will get you $$$ when the athletes and young blk ballers come in

When you go in to apply wear slim jeans or tights, fitted t-shirt something causal that shows off your figure. Not club dresses or booty shorts or strippers outfits. Dont bring your fugly friend with you too apply because that can have you turned away at the door. No crazy makeup just eyeliner, lipgloss, mascara will do. Be nice to everyone because if you act shitty to the doorman or cashier they will tell you the manager is busy. The best time to apply is when the club just opens, never apply on the weekends. If you are told the manager is busy or in a meeting or to come back, then chalk it up and move on to the next club. They never turn away a hot chick they want to hire.

Yall don't know how much i love yall for this post!! I just started looking into trying to serve, but im new to Atl. Can yall give me some info on places and also the license info im hearing you have to have. Thanks in advance!!

Tell my girl S____  (waitress) I said hey! lol. I want to work at one and am happy I came across this discussion. I am thinking about doing it as well on the side. I have a nice career, but while beginning, and all during college I worked at Hooters, Kilts, etc....so I tknow I'd do well. Plus like it was said, it really helps build your personality, make connects, and your confidence.  Since I now live in Atlanta, I want to see what DOA is about... I'm not into all of the hood stuff, but my tl is always going crazy about on twitter. I only told my mom and 1 of my aunts about it because I didnt want ppl judging me (which were usually the broke ppl whom shoulda been serving tables/ drinks alongside me). Also, a lot of our girls did eventually get on the poles after leaving the company, but I was fine where I was, I think it depends on your personal morals/ values

Go for it!! Especially here in Atlanta. My suggestion is that you apply at places like Follies, Oasis or Cheetah. DOA seems like its going to be very fly by night. I don't think its worth paying $350 for a permission to work there. But I may be wrong because I've never worked in a black club. I swear that building is cursed, lol. The permit system is better for clubs in Dekalb county. The people you meet will be priceless. My concierge business if off to a great start because my first twelve clients are regular customers of mine. Since you have restaurant experience you should check out Hal's in Buckhead. Old and new money frequent that place daily. The Club at Chops is also a great place. It's a hidden cigar bar and food lounge in the basement of Chops Lobster Bar. It's members only at $750 and up per membership the "who's who" of Atlanta frequent there everyday. Hope this helps, feel free to ask about anything else.
@Chanel, you gave a great response with a ton of helpful info for people trying to break in. But beyond these looks depending on which club one goes to, a good personality and being proactive will get you very, very far. That's why the "not so cute girls" run circles, cash-wise, around the stunning ones.

@ Whittley, check out my above list of suggestions!! If you have any questions I can help you with post them here or inbox me. I don't mind sharing at all, it's enough money in this city for us all, lol.

OMG thanks for this a lot!!! I was really contemplating where to go... A lot of my friends from college work at DOA, Kamals, Onyx, and the rest of the AA places. Now I am not knocking them, cause all $$ is green, but I have hung with them before at work, and there seems to be a lot of mess going in there that I'd rather not deal with. With DOA, they just seemed like they are poppin, but I kinda think the hype will die down, plus a lil bit ago on twitter, a person I was following used Central Station & DOA in the same sentence... Ummmm red flag cantdoit.com/never! lol.

Also, being the big boob, no ass club chick that I am, I'd prob fit in better at the places you named :) I will def go and see how I can make things happen. I am have a lot of free time in the summer, with my profession lol. So I will prob go aroung April to ease my schedule into things. I will prob be inboxing you as I get ready to go just for some tips. I am from up north and I know that this is a whole diff league down here (which I am rdy to conquer!)
