Hey everybody I'm stuck in a wit. Im really trying not to go off on the deep end but Im super pissed. My job let me go this past Wednesday I was so upset I think I suffer from PTSD. Only reason I say this because it still doesnt feel real to me, Im trying not to tear up now thiking about it. That was my only source of income. Yeah I lived check to check, Im a single parent of one. To make matters worse I have other people living with me. Im trying to not get depressed but its hard I gave them mfs 4 years of my time. Now I dont even know where to start looking for a job. The good thing is by them laying me off I can leave STL and move to whereever I want and persue my dreams. I just dont know if I want to go to ATL or Chicago. Chicago I have more family in Atlanta I have people that I know as well. Sorry for the rant but can you all help me and let me know where would be a better move for single parent of one. Any advice is greatly appreciated, also if you all have any other places to relocate to Im open, its not like I have a job anymore....:'(

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation Golden. When you loose your job you go through the stages similiar to grief. Disbelief is first, then anger, the depression and finally acceptance. It's normal, so acknowledge your pain and I pray that you find something fast. If you move to another state can you still collect your unemplyment? You should start applying for jobs in both Chi and Atl and see what kinds of leads you are getting. Depends on what industry you work in. I don't know the age of your child, but also consider how much support you will have with him/her. Good luck with everything!

I agree with this.  apply for jobs in both cities and see what happens.  try and see if someone knows someone that needs help.  If u dont mind me asking, who else lives with you?? are they depending on you for support?  Can you file for unemployment?   Everyone else is getting over on the govt (you wont be, just saying)  but you may as well go and see if they can help you, see what kind of programs they have.  We have a cooperative ministries here and they help ppl with things like rent and food but i think emergencies only, but urs is an emergency.  Im sure u know, but make sure u apply any money u have towards ur rent because u need a place to stay, everything else is secondary.  If you have any books or other things laying around the house, get on amazon and ebay and try to sell them to get u a few dollars.  Hope everything works out, keep us updated.

I'm sorry to hear that, sometimes the best comes when you are in worst situations. Think of it as it's a new and better opportunity. I don't know which state is better but according to stats http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm Chi has lower unemployment rate. While looking for a new job try to do some side hassles, like leapforce.com, people say its legit 13.5/hr all you need is computer and internet.  Most of the good jobs are found through networking, so spread a word but don't come off as needy, just ask if they know someone is hiring and send them your resume, make your business card and 1 minute commercial speech about yourself and try to meet people in your field. Try to network through linkedin.com. I hope you'll find something.
Yes at missucannevagetenuff, the ppl tht stay with me were depending on me because when I wrote the check out for rent that was all of my money. Yeah they were helping on the utilities and whatnot but too be honest, Im pissed but I also felt like they were getting over. Idk if Ill still be able to collect my unemployment or not. I know by my daughter having asthma, and me having cs on my deadbeat bd, Ill qualify for food stamps and medicaid. Im hoping I can still get my unemployment if I relocate to another state because I do hve a carnote. My daughter will be 3 this syear so she'll be old enough to go to preschool. Only reason I wanted to go to the A is because I want to go to school to be makeup artist and learn more about fashion...

Hello there. I live my hometown--Chicago. Great summers
and good people. If you like the change of seasons,
especially cold winters, you should fine.
However, we also have high sales taxes and gas prices,
and it can be a bit pricey, especially in the
nicer areas of town. Still a great place despite those things.
