Former baseball star David Justice is shedding light on his turbulent marriage to actress Halle Berry in the early 1990s. Speaking on the “All the Smoke” podcast, Justice revealed that Berry proposed to him after just five months of dating. Still caught up in the “honeymoon” stage, he admitted he was surprised but ultimately agreed, and the two married in 1992.

According to Justice, cracks began to show soon after. He said he realized the “Boomerang” actress was not the traditional wife he envisioned, creating tension between them. One incident in particular stood out. Justice recalled Berry greeting another actor with a kiss on the lips in his presence. When he addressed the moment, Berry allegedly told him it was simply a Los Angeles thing.
The marriage ended in 1997, but Justice claims the public narrative painted him as the cause of the split, despite his being the one who filed for divorce. He alleged that the “machine” behind Berry fueled that perception.
The most painful chapter, Justice says, came when Berry discussed a past domestic violence incident involving a former partner. While she never named him, Justice says her silence allowed people to believe he was the abuser.
“She let the world think it. She didn’t come out and say, ‘Nah, it wasn’t David,’” Justice said. “That, I didn’t appreciate from her.”
Justice’s remarks offer a rare glimpse into a high-profile Hollywood marriage that ended nearly three decades ago but, according to him, still carries lingering wounds.
