For Women Who Want The Ballerific Life!
| Zoe Saldana says black actresses who complain about lack of opportunities in Hollywood should get off their butts and stop complaining because America has a black president. “We have a Black president right now,” the actress said in her Ebony magazine cover story. “So why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?” And it’s that attitude she says that helps her land her movie roles. “When I go after a part, [people] better watch their backs,” she says. “Not because I’m going to crush everybody, but because I’m going to give the best that I can because I strive for excellence. When you don’t get a part, it is for a reason, and these pieces will fall into place soon.” |

First of all, Zoe, Ms. Dominica the country where bishes like you always date white men to feel prestigious (how is that husband of yours?)-- you should already know that having a Black President hasn't just magically opened doors for us.
In fact, you do know this. I'm thinking your comments in Ebony Magazine were made because you suddenly feel like an elitist. Ms High and Mighty who just filmed her crappiest movie to date and comes out on the red carpet lookin like Skeletor-- all cheesing for the camera as you wave your white man around. Hoe, sit down.
Second of all, being that you're from the islands-- I don't even have to explain colorism to you and how bad light skin v. dark skin wars go on in the Caribbean. So bish, you know damn well that if you had been Gabrielle Union's skin tone you would've never gotten that role to begin with!!

i know Miss Cover of Latina Magazine isn't telling BLACK actresses what to do. giiiiiiiiirl.....
Permalink Reply by Ms. Ashley Banks on September 6, 2011 at 11:11am The problem is that Hollywood has always been lily white. It will probably stay that way until Latinos and Asians take over in the next 50 years. All actresses have a hard time finding good work, not just black ones. That's why need to develop our own networks, movie studios, independent films and support our own work that we'll get more attention. Zoe is just the cocoa beauty of the month. She's also foreign born, which will get her better treatment in this country. It's an unfortunate reality, but it's the truth. There are thousands of actresses of all colors more talented than her who are waiting tables, cleaning houses, being nannies while they wait for their big break. Be thankful for what you have while you have it, because the same black actresses you put down today will be the directors, writers, editors you try to suck up to tomorrow.
*sidebar* Am I the only person who remembers hearing her accent in Drumline? That wasn't even 10 years ago, so yes, she has come a long way, but still has far to go.
Permalink Reply by Sissy on September 6, 2011 at 11:13am I actually do kind of get the feeling that some black actresses don't have the right priorities. Almost like they're obsessed with the celebrity and fame rather than career. Being seen here and there, being linked to so and so, wearing this, wearing that- prime example is Megan Good (am I spelling that correctly?). Then you have actresses who built themselves up because they kept working, Violetta Davis, Whoopi, Halle, Queen Latifah, hell even Oprah! NONE of these women are particularly light bright and/or gorgeous (minus Halle).
Permalink Reply by blackback on September 6, 2011 at 2:13pm Zoe forgot that she JUST started getting some shine. She got a few movies as a leading lady and let it go to her head. Let her not forget, had Halle not had a seat and Angelina not gone humanitarian, no one would be checking for Zoe...

Permalink Reply by Size 2 Prez Wheelies ya dig on September 7, 2011 at 12:01am Please... white actresses be chasing the peen just as much-- Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Sarah JP (who just had twins but still gets called for movie roles) Why? Because Hollywood likes light and bright not dark and strong.
I know people like Zoe. Dominican chicks love waving their light and bright in your face. Have you seen this chick on the red carpet? She waves her white husband around like he's God. Please I was engaged to a white man and hell, to me he was just another d*** and potential donor to pay off these damn student loans. I never saw him as better than the next. Skin color is nothing but skin and color.
F*** Zoe. Ya got somethin to say about my pure African sistas bish? Let's rumble.

She probably couldn't say what she really wanted to say! I'll see black actresses need to work on their craft and stop chasing peen and chase movie roles!! A lot of them are glorified groupies! They can't concentrate on their career cause of peen! Add singers (if you can really call some of them that) to that list as well!
