The 10th anniversary of Black Girls Rock aired Tuesday and it was amazing per usual. A full house of beautiful and powerful black women, under one roof, honoring what gets ignored so often, is pure #blackgirlmagic. Tracee Ellis Ross was the host of the show (a bomb host I… Continue

Black Women, in my opinion, used to be the most GLORIFIED group of women. Don’t tear these comments up but, what changed?
I’m not bashing any other races, at all. I believe we are all created equally. I love all people, but I am a black woman. I have questions though. Does Sway have the… Continue

SONOS Studio is located off La Brea Avenue and Beverly Boulevard, which explains why one of the most epic listening parties would take place there. On Thursday, November 18th, Rick Ross threw a private listening event in Los Angeles for industry insiders to get a first listen of his 8th studio LP… Continue

The power and persuasion of social media strikes again and this time the powers that be were caught in the crossfire.
A few days ago a concerned mom noticed that her son's textbook contained very poor choice in wording as well as an inaccurate description of the black diaspora. Roni… Continue

The topic of marriage surrounds me daily. As a young, unmarried, childless woman, I am often a prime candidate for unsolicited but much needed advice from near and far.
“Marry who loves you more than you love them, you won’t go… Continue

As always I try to only write or blog about what I know and what I have experienced firsthand whether through triumphs and victories or trials and tribulations. Today I wanted to speak on the “misogynist man”.
Webster Dictionary defines a misogynist as a person who dislikes, despises, or… Continue

I remember like it was yesterday, it was 2006 and my freshman year in college. I was head over heels for this fine brother by the name of Norris*. He was 6’4, smooth honey brown skin with long milk and honey infused dreads and he was the leader of Alpha Phi Alpha. (Which is a big deal at an HBCU) He was so smooth! Reminded me of a Maxwell mixed with a little Raheem Devaugn. We dated the whole first semester, and during that time he opened my mind… Continue

Or do they? Now, that last pick is Star Wars movie empire daddy George Lucas and his chocolate sister, a very successful CEO of her own company. She isn't with him for just the money (it never hurts to get more money), but perhaps the affluence or influence, or maybe it's just pure love. Think white boys don’t want black women? Think again. They say you have to have a certain look. You can’t look “too black”.…

God is a focal point in the Black community. Spirituality, belief and faith are all interconnected and this is due to a long history between religion and Blacks that goes back further than slavery. Although slavery was definitely one of the American institutions that helped to forge and solidify the strong…

Some of our favorite gals represented at Black Girls Rock! Black girls rock honors some of the most exceptional women of color in the country. DJ Beverly Bond produced the event 3 years ago. Stephen Hill (president of music programming for BET) partnered with her and now it's bigger than ever. Some of the categories include "Rock Star" "Who Got Next" "Living Legend" just to name a… Continue

There are 1,000,000 single black women out there. It has to be a valid reason for this. Black men are dating outside of their race and the numbers are increasing. It has become more common to see a black man with a non-african american woman on his arm.
I have a friend that recently divorced and he said if he was to ever get married again he would marry a white woman. This sadden me but I want to find out why.
I ran across… Continue

Here we are in the lovely month of February which recognizes OUR history. We make history everyday, so therefore I celebrate it throughout the entire year. If it weren't for those same individuals who went against the grain, some of the luxuries I'm afforded today, I simply wouldn't appreciate. Much love goes out to Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Betty Shabazz, George Washington Carver, Madame C.J. Walker, just to name a… Continue
