For Women Who Want The Ballerific Life!
Okay, so she didn't exactly say it like that but that's how she meant it. In an interview with Associate Press, Gabby talks about being confused over the controversy of her own hair.
Via Huffington Post
"I don't know where this is coming from. What's wrong with my hair?" said Douglas, the first U.S. gymnast to win gold in team and all-around competition. "I'm like, `I just made history and people are focused on my hair?' It can be bald or short, it doesn't matter about (my) hair."
Douglas uses gel, clips and a ponytail holder to keep things in place while she competes, a style she's worn for years.
"Nothing is going to change," she said. "I'm going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it."
The bubbly teenager is the first African-American gymnast to win her sport's biggest prize. She had no idea she was lighting up social media until she Googled herself hours after winning her gold medal.
"I don't think people should be worried about that," she said. "We're all champions and we're all winners. I just say that it's kind of, a stupid and crazy thought to think about my hair."
Crazy thing is, I may be the only person the planet that doesn't see what the fuss is about her hair. Even if she hadn't made history, I don't get what the problem is. She has thick hair, full edges and a great length. What's the issue here? I'm sorry, with all of the women who have their edges on life support, I can't possibly fix my mind to see anything wrong with Gabby's hair. Is it not as slick as people want it to be? Is it because of the clips and gel that she uses to keep her hair out of her face while she's out there WINNING? She is 16 years old and sweating out her hair daily. She has the rest of her life to be concerned about Indian Remy weave. Til then, she's going to keep counting those Corn Flakes dollars and stunting while the haters stay mad.
Comment by Baller Alert on August 6, 2012 at 11:58am Who was making the comments? All I saw was people defending the comments. This is so stupid...
Comment by Sheli on August 6, 2012 at 12:05pm There were people on Twitter & Facebook who made comments concerning her hair, I think it would have blown over, BUT the media (yahoo-news, etc) blew it up by writing a full story on it, which included screenshots of tweets, so I think other media outlets ran with it, like they did with the Serena C-walk.
I hope my future 16 year old daughter is still wearing her hair in a ponytail and not a s*** load of weave, like 16 years do now.

Comment by Eleven8 on August 6, 2012 at 12:11pm I see everything right with her hair. I really don't see the problem . Yeah she has a thousand clips in it but she has to secure her hair out of her face. Same with dance and cheerleading.
And most girls in gymnastics were their hair in a ponytail with the clips for competition. They all have the same style.
Comment by Baller Alert on August 6, 2012 at 12:23pm OK so the dumb ass media used ignant ass people on facebook and twitter for a story??? Sooo stupid..
And Tone.. I think you say stupid s*** just because. All I have seen is praises about her and I'm sure it wasn't all "black" girls talking about her hair. You need therapy..
Comment by DdoubleD on August 6, 2012 at 1:21pm I'm sorry but I don't see anything wrong with her hair at all. If you are a black woman and work out you must know that unless you are weaved up you are gonna sweat your hair out.
I think tone might be right though. Sadly to say the only people I seen speaking negative about her hair were black women. Most white people would not even know much about edges.
naw, white people wouldn't have known much about edges but they damn sure know what a bad weave looks like or better yet, hair that isn't silky straight. idk, her hair is fine, she's in a gym working out for crying out loud. they made the same fuss when serena and venus wore the beads on their braided hair when they first came out. let this s*** blow over, girls hair is fine.
