Ballerific Relationships – Error: Insufficient Funds

You cannot walk into your bank and successfully withdraw funds without first depositing them. If you try to retrieve funds that are not available you will get an ‘insufficient funds’ error and sent on your way. Not long ago I decided that I’d use the very same policy when it comes to certain people in my life and just as I was going to extend myself to someone that I shouldn’t, I stumbled upon a conversation that was just the reminder I needed. As someone who is a server at heart I am naturally nurturing and always available to help those in need even in the midst of my own storms. While those may be good traits to possess, not everyone is deserving and it can come back to haunt you in ways. You know who they are. The ones who may be fun to hang with but are not there when it counts. The ones who don’t answer when you reach out to them but they may call you every now and then just to stay attached and keep the lines of communication open for the next time they need you. Oh, but don’t you dare need them, you’ll get nothing. They see your struggle but wait until you’re coming out of your storm to say “Girl, why didn’t you tell/ask me? I would have helped!”. That one ex who comes to you for a fix when they realize the rest of the world doesn’t put up with their crap or treat them as well as you do. The guy with the good good who fills you up sexually but leaves you spiritually in debt. These people will continuously withdraw from you emotionally, mentally, spiritually, financially and even physically without any intention of making a deposit if you allow it. I know I know, you can’t ‘make’ anyone do right by you but you don’t have to put up with being used or misused either. There are people out there or quite possibly already in your life who will eagerly meet your needs and return to you what you put out exceedingly.

You have to start giving out insufficient fund receipts in the form of ‘NO’ “Girl, bye” “Boy, please!” and “I have nothin’ for ya!”. They will deal.

Are there people in your life who take more from you than they contribute? How do you handle them?
