Bresha Meadows, 14, Charged With Aggravated Murder After Killing Her Abusive Father – blogged by @MsJennyb

On July 28, 14-year-old #BreshaMeadows became her mother’s “hero” after ending years of abuse by killing her father in his sleep.

According to #HuffingtonPost, Meadows lived in a perpetual state of fear. She locked herself in her room, ran away from home and even informed family members of her father’s abuse, revealing that she feared for her life after the man threatened to kill the entire family.

“I love her and she helped us all. She’s my hero, our hero,” Brandi Meadows, 41, said as she cried during an interview with #Fox 8 #Cleveland. “I wasn’t strong enough to get out and she helped us all.”

In addition to the constant psychical abuse, the man often threatened them with his .45 caliber handgun, the same gun Bresha used to shoot him in the head.

Since the incident, Bresha has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder, to which she pleaded “not true.” Family members have come forward to confirm the claims of abuse, describing the 41-year-old as a physically and verbally abusive man who terrorized his family and controlled his wife’s every move.

In 2011, Brandi filed a civil domestic violence protection order against him, writing that she was scared for her life, Huffington Post reports.

“In the 17 years of our marriage, he has cut me, broke my ribs, fingers, the blood vessels in my hand, my mouth, blackened my eyes. I believe my nose was broken. If he finds us, I am 100 percent sure he will kill me and the children….My life is like living in a box he created for me, and if I stepped out of that box, he’s there to put me back in that box.”

Later on, the order of protection was dismissed at Brandi’s request and the couple got back together.

According to Bresha’s attorney, Ian Friedman, the 14-year-old acted in self-defense to protect her family. In order to provide a clear understanding of the events leading up to the fatal shooting, Friedman is gathering information for the prosecution.

“She lived a life that no child should,” he said. “She took the only step that she could, in her mind, to save her mother’s life and that of her siblings.”

“I trust that once they see that, they will fully understand why this girl acted the way that she did.”

Bresha Meadows is currently being held in a juvenile detention center in Warren, Ohio. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for August 30.
