Erykah Badu Calls Out Black Eyed Peas For Stealing Her Video Concept (Watch Videos Inside)

Back in 2008, Erykah Badu dropped her “Honey” video and it took the hip hop word by storm. It began with Erykah strolling through a record store and paying homage to hip hop and soul greats by superimposing herself on to classic album covers and music videos. Just a few days ago the Black Eyed Peas (sans Fergie) dropped a new video titled “Yesterday”. In their video, they too peruse a record store and pay homage to classic music by superimposing themselves into album covers. Only one problem, no one forgot that Erykah Badu did it 7 years ago.

I think THE BLACK EYE PEAS borrowed my idea a Lil lol,” Erykah posted to Facebook, “I’m gone beat up Will I AM. I wrote and directed this joint. Won best director @ VMA’s.. So I understand, Pasha Shapiro.. Flattered. Cute video non the less.” Whether Miss Badu meant she was literally going to beat Will I AM would be a reach, but you can definitely see she feels a way. You know Erykah Badu is an artist and she’s sensitive about her sh*t — and rightfully so, BEP didn’t so much as even mention where they got the video idea from.

Will.I.Am or any of the members of BEP have yet to comment on the claims as they continue to promote the video on social media. Watch the two videos below and let us know what you think.Ā
