The AJC is reporting yet another major DEA drug bust in Atlanta. This is at least the 9th major bust in the last eight months, and according to the Department of Justice, Atlanta broke the record for the size of a methamphetamine bust in the eastern US on four separate occasions in just a 17 month period.
It has become evident that the Mexican cartels are choosing Atlanta to house it's trafficking operations because of its prime relative location to Texas and the rest of the eastern distribution points of the US. Gwinnett County, a northern suburb of Atlanta, has been dubbed as "Gwinexico" due to its ever increasing Mexican population.
Cartels have chosen to set up shop there because they are able to blend in and are far enough away from, but still close enough to, the city to conduct their business. Once considered a safe haven for burgeoning families, the suburbs have recently become meth labs, stash houses, and homes to some of the most dangerous players in the current drug game.
