Is Traditional Courtship Over?

My friends and I often debate on this topic because we’ve all come to the conclusion that things have changed. We know that traditionally there was a particular way that a man would court a  woman if he was interested, but that’s simply not the case in this day and age.

It seems as though social status,  physical appearance, and others perceptions attribute to a person’s relationship status more so than anything else. I hate to say it, but the rules have changed. I do believe that there are still some great men and women out there with values, but I’m sometimes afraid that they may be far and few.

Let’s look at some terms that will clarify things a little for us in regards to relationships. I will define the terms to give each of us a better understanding of how society views these terms.

Terms

Courtship-The activities that occur when people are developing a romantic relationship that could lead to marriage or the period of time when such activities occur.

Dating-“Dating” can be two people in an intimate relationship. The relationship may be sexual, but it does not have to be, it can be a platonic relationship.

Marriage- The state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.

My View

Now here are my views; it’s easier for people to walk into a person’s life and become content if there are no set goals. I think society standards have fallen and that women have allowed men to make them think that their “standards are too high” or unattainable which is not true.

I believe that “some” men were not given the proper information as young boys as to how to court a woman properly as a man. They were not told how valuable it is to have a praying woman that supports you in your life, or what the bible says about women in general. We forget that we live in a generation where a lot of men were not raised by men but by women and lack the foundation that many generations of men have paved for them. Ladies like to feel special gentlemen. Send flowers randomly, with funny notes with jokes that only the two of you know of. Simple gestures are the best.

I must also say that there are a lot of women out there that also need a refresher course on how to treat men. There are women who grew up without strong male figures who lack a certain type of respect for a man because of their independence. It’s great that you lead but it’s written that a woman should also  follow ladies. A woman has a role in a man’s life as do a man. Have an open heart ladies, and put forth the effort for a good man when you recognize one.  Men may not like flowers, but they can appreciate the gesture. There are so many things to do to make a man’s heart flutter. We have to understand that it’s okay to show your love for someone.

Ladies never let a man make you feel as though traditional courtship is over. Chivalry is not dead; a person will  put in work for what they want. Treating a lady like a QUEEN is only something that a KING can do. Traditionally we pass on values to our children and grandchildren so that the decisions that they make in love with strengthen you all and leave a better foundation.

It’s a blessing to grow together and tell positive love stories to your children, and to have them understand the importance chivalry. That’s something that we should all look forward to because you can’t play the field forever. I love great love stories and I can’t wait until someone finds me so we can begin our first chapter. Below are five simple tips to know if you are being courted properly. Xo

A man that is courting you will:

  • Compliment You
  • Embrace His Inner Gentleman
  • Always be on Time
  • Listen
  • Make a conscious effort to get to know you very well i.e. religion, family life, and friends.
