For Women Who Want The Ballerific Life!
When you think of the ideal marriage what do you think of? Of course spending your life with the man of your dreams is first, but think further down the line than that? Ideally, after the fairy tale wedding you want to be financially stable right? Believe it or not, a large percentage of women marry for money. Whether they marry entirely for money, or whether money plays a huge factor in if you stay together, the fact still remains: Money is the motive! If no one married for money pre-nup agreements wouldn't exist. It's a fact that money is one of the leading causes of divorce and is likely to play just as large of a role in engagement.
So how do we tell the difference between a Gold Digger and a woman who is looking out for her Financial Well-Being? Well allow me to break it down.
Why Did I Get Married: Was it the money first or was it the love? If the money attracted you and you possibly found love later on, you're a Gold Digger. There's nothing wrong with the profession (because it IS a job) but be realistic with yourself. You don't have to answer to anyone else's speculation of you, just know who you are, and that's the digger of the gold variety.
If he went broke, would you stay: When I say broke, I mean to the point where you're one mortgage payment away from renting a refrigerator box under a bridge. No one wants to live this way. We all have dreams of white picket fences, but if the day should come that your husband's money had gone dry, do you think you could weather the storm? If the answer is yes (or even "for a little while") you are more of a Financial Planner than a true Gold Digger. Gold Diggers are business women. Think of them as an endorsement deal. As long as you promise to hold up your end of the bargain (the money) they'll promise to stick around. The first sign of commas disappearing in your account and you can say bye-bye to your trophy wife!
Do you name drop: A true Gold Digger is very proud of her catch and will name drop at every chance she can get. Any time she addresses her spouse by first and last name, you may be dealing with a Gold Digger. The financial planner type is less likely to let people know who she is married to and enjoys being out of the spotlight when she can.
Would you sign a pre-nup: If you say yes, then you are either confident in your relationship, or very confident in your money. A financial planner does not mind protecting her OWN money as long as she knows she'll be financially secure. A Gold Digger on the other hand will run for the hills before you can say the PRE in prenuptial!
Nice Post! I think I am a financial planning gold digger. Can I be both? :)
1. I would marry both love and money, but if I marry for love you have to have at least a little bit of money and a plan on how your money can keep working for you...I would NOT just marry for money with no love...there HAS to be some sort of feelings involved first.
2. If he went broke, and we are MARRIED...YES I would stay..I would actually have money stashed away to hold us down for times like this. I would not leave him just because HE went broke. I still got your back baby!!
3. No don't really name drop and am not too flashy. I am very humble, you won't get to know or see certain things about me until you meet me and even still I won't mention them, you just have to pay attention.
4.I would sign a FAIR pre-nup if not half maybe 1/4, I don't know how the pre-nup situation works but I wouldn't exactly RUN if he asked me to sign one but we would have to negotiate.. :-)
