Morris Twins Charged With Felony Assault

Earlier this month we reported that The Morris Twins, Marcus & Markieff of the Phoenix Suns, were being investigated for beating a man senseless after discovering he sent their mom inappropriate text messages. According to ESPN, the Suns forwards have both been charged with felony aggravated assault. Gerald Bowman, who was a safety for USC and preparing for the NFL draft, is also being charged with felony assault for his role in the incident.

36 year old Erik Hood says that on January 24th, he and a female companion were at the Nina Mason Pulliam Recreation & Sports Complex watching a basketball game. The Morris Twins and three friends, Gerald Bowman, Julius Kane and Christopher Melendez also happened to be there. Hood told police that after the game he and the woman were attacked by a man named Julius Kane, who he suspects also told the twins about the alleged text message. He said Kane confronted him, and he was then struck in the back of the head by Melendez. According to the police report, Hood  tried to run but was caught by another man, while at least three others attacked him. He identified his assailants as The Morris’ and their friends. Hood was treated for a broken nose, bruises and abrasions.

The twins denied involvement but looks like denial wasn’t good enough and they, along with their buddies have been charged. They released a statement earlier today saying, “We have been advised by our attorneys not to discuss this case or make any statements about it. We are sorry for the distraction this has caused to our fans and the Suns.”

Because the incident took place at a basketball game, police plan to track down and question as many attendees as possible. Marcus and Markieff have a court appearance set for May 7.
