MTV Says Nicki Minaj & Miley Cyrus Incident Was 100% Real

The MTV VMA’s were taped live and one of the most talked about moments was when Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus in front of a room full of celebrity peers and rolling cameras. The tension is a result of an interview Miley Cyrus did with New York Times that hit the web just days before the award show. In the interview Miley talks about her thoughts on Nicki’s Video Of The Year snub, then refers to Nicki as “rude” and “not polite”. Well, last night Nicki decided to show her how “not polite” she could be.

As Nicki Minaj took the stage to accept her award, she went from thanking her pastor in her usual calm/sweet tone, to aiming her sights at Cyrus who stood yards away off camera, chatting with members of the audience. From footage taken from Miley’s POV, it definitely looked as if Miley was caught off guard. “And back to this bitch who had a lot to say about me in the press,” snarled Nicki, “Miley, what’s good?” A stunned Miley quickly recovered, telling Nicki that her words (in the interview) were manipulated, and thanked Nicki for her “f*ckin” win.

So was this all scripted? MTV says no, and they were just as stunned as you and I. “It’s real, an MTV press spokesman confirmed to MTV News. Like really, really real, you guys. As in not a stunt or a trick or a brilliant performance of award-show faux-beef. We get the confusion. After all, MTV has had some fun in the past with staged stunts. Remember Brüno literally dropping in on Eminem at the ’09 MTV Movie Awards? But Sunday’s throwdown was no such stunt, as our reporters backstage and outside the dressing rooms can also confirm. So consider it official: the Nicki/Miley exchange was unscripted and real.”

I think it was real too. Considering how off guard Miley appeared off camera, how hype Meek Mill (who obviously knew something we didn’t) appeared as Nicki went to get her award, the change in Nicki’s voice, Nicki leaving the awards after the incident and obviously, no backstage photo of the two reconciling…it definitely appears real. Also, the fact that Miley had several days to clean up her comment before the award show tells me that her words were NOT “manipulated” and that was a last minute cop-out response.

Either way, real or fake, we’re all talking about it and the ratings on the re-air are probably sky-high. In my opinion, Miley made great points in her interview but made a huge mistake when she came for Nicki’s character. She opened the door for Nicki to react. If she felt Nicki was rude, she should have handled that privately. Since she said what she said publicly, she can’t be upset when Nicki returns the shots publicly. As for blaming the media, that’s old and dated. We need better excuses.
