NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ?????

  • Rating: No Rating

THE PROBLEM

THE SOLUTION
Two days ago I received a very disturbing letter from my child's elementary school . It said that the same school which was an "A " school only two years ago is now a "D" school . This was a letter that was sent out by the school board to all schools in Miami - Dade county . When I came to the name of my child's school in and looked at the so called requirements to meet the scores on the F.C.A.T. there was a little note on the side saying " Black , Economicaly Disadvantaged , English Language Learners students in this school need improvement in math and reading . " Black ??? Disadvantaged ??? Did not meet requirements ??? I find this very strange and ...... well ,racist ! Now remember I told you that this letter was sent out to all of the school's in Miami-Dade ! So I went back and read all of the grades from all of the schools and realized that the only schools that received a " No" concerning them meeting all requirements were the majority black schools ! How can this be ? There are children at my child's school that came to America less than a year ago and are now speaking fluent English ..... something is terribly wrong with this picture ! Since our former President Bush passed the '" No child left behind " Act , it seems that black children are the only ones being " Left Behind " , they are closing so many schools in inner city neighborhoods , taking the little funds they had and giving the funds to already well funded schools who don't need the money . They are shutting us down and our children are suffering !!!! The most alarming part of it is , our local Black senators are doing nothing about it , nobody is ! Since day one we have been letting it happen . Children are being held back in the same grades because they cant pass a test that didn't even exist a few years ago !!! Teenagers are dropping out of school at an alarming rate ! What are we gonna do about this ? I'm worried about my child's future in this country !!! People on welfare are saying that they are being questioned about their child's graduation date ..... I wonder why ? Some would say that there is nothing wrong with the FCAT. exam but I beg to differ . I once looked at a simulated FCAT test given to elementary school children with sample questions and this was one of the questions :

What does my daddy do on Saturday ?

1. Go to work .
2. Mow the lawn .
3.Go to the grocery store .
4.Take me to school .

The correct answer was 2 .

Well I have a few questions of my own to who ever wrote that question , Like : What if I live in the projects and don't have a lawn ? What if I never met my daddy or he is in jail ? What if my Daddy works on Saturday to make ends meet ? What if my mommy takes me to school ? ..... It seems to me that this test is setting our children up for failure and nothing on top of nothing is being done about it by our leaders ! I am seriously considering taking my kids out of the public school system so they can start learning again , about things other than this FCAT set up ! The future of our kids are at stake , something needs to be done and fast ! Thoughts ?

CP you're about to make me cry because this is so serious and so emotional esp for parents who care about their children well being! This is very serious, and what kind of question is that I remember her in Missouri we have the MAP test which is like the FCAT and they ask stupid questions like that becuase they know that majority of black children grew in a single parent household! Once again it's how the government is setting us up to look bad and make the white people look good. Because there aren't too many single parent white households in MO probably not in FL!

CP, dont take your kids out of public school. I know its frustrating but private schools are SO competitive and unbalanced. My suggestion to you is get a group of parents together and start making some noise! Start writing letters to your representatives, call the media if you have to. Call attention to the problem. Start a fundraiser for your child's school (schools in NYC have started online auctions to raise money) and get some of these celebs involved.
It makes me mad that more parents arent voicing their concerns and done seem to care that their lack of concern is affecting their children's future. Then they wonder why their daughter is pregnant at 12 and their son is on some corner or on his way to jail before he can vote! SMDH...

Its terrible, which is why my child WILL be in a Montersorri school, a charter school, and private school...

I just can not deal with the education these children are receiving...my neice was told by her health teacher, people are gay because of a hormone in their urine...***blank stare*** smh...no ma'am!

Well I don't think the test question was unfair... A child shouldn't have to have a father figure around to figure out figurative writing... The problem I have is that the grocery shopping could very well be a weekend activity... But at any rate, a partime tutor might cost you less than yearly private school... And this is also where parenting comes into play... So many ppl rely on schools solely to educate their children... I hope you are able to find a great solution

@ HW .... I am not worried about my children , I know they can pass any test but there a certain group of children that wouldn't have the first idea of how to answer that question ! I agree that teaching should be done primarily in the home and that is is the responsibility of the parents but all parents cant afford tutors or have time to tutor their own children . I still think that many of the questions are unfair to inner city children and it is unfair that the teachers are forced to give them nothing but FCAT curriculum ! I've spoken to quite a few teachers and they are tired of it . @ GC and Charlie I feel you and Devyn , you are right .... I need to talk to some of the other parents and see what I can get started . I am not gonna sleep on this , children are very close to my heart !

CP, I just discovered this blog. Were the kids given a story to read and then had to answer this question that pertained to the story? Because this question doesn't make any sense on its own, it could be anyone of the 4 answers given. (didn't mean to bring up an old story).

I can't believe what I'm reading. We had to fight for a black school that has a curriculum that includes our history and contribution to this world.

No they were not given a story ..... and BTW , all of my little one passed the test and had the highest math score in his class !

It's nuts how they can be creative with their curriculums to keep other races back.
That's why parents have to be in the schools, present at every parent/teacher interview and get on the school board.

Congrats to your babies CP! Same thing happened ao my sons old school! Over 90% of the students were in ESOL, but they mainted an A for 3yrs! Then the nex year they dropped to a D!

That question makes no sense! What if the childs father hired someone to mow his lawn? Why wasn't that an option? The FCAT is supposed to test children on what they were taught during the year, not on what somebody's daddy does on Saturday!

@CP - FYI Miami Dade libraries offer free tutoring on Saturday's during the school year.

The same thing happened at my kids school Dovie .... it's a conspiracy ! It is up to us as parents to make sure that our children don't fall victim to their system !

Miss..this outfit looks dry, but I guess it is cool for a woman her age. If she want to keep 50 this time around she is definitely going to need to spice it up.

The term hoe is too broad. Some people think if you have slept wtih more than 2 people than you are a hoe. Others if you sleep with more than two a day! I think we need Baller Alert Certified definition of hoe just to clear things up :P

Wow..this is deja vu. So many men have said that to me and suprise, surprise, not taken things further after that. I guess they get intimidated by success if they don't have much to bring to the table.
