Back in June it was reported that blade runner, Oscar Pistorius, could be leaving jail before serving his full 5 year sentence.
You may recall Pistorius fatally shot his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day after he says, he mistook her for an intruder. A South African judge ruled it an accident and sentenced him to 5 years. According to South African law, you can apply for parole after 10 months. This month marks Pistorius’ 10th month.
In June, correctional services confirmed Pistorius had been recommended for release on probation on August 21st. “He’s behaving himself very well,” said Zach Modise, the South African correctional services’ national commissioner, at the time. If released, Pistorius could still be put on house arrest.
Prosecutors are still gunning for a murder conviction as they plan to appeal the case to the South AfricanSupreme Court. If convicted, Pistorius could face a minimum of 15 years.
