Ryan Coogler, Ava DuVernay & More Ditch Oscars For Flint

African American actors and filmmakers have been taking a stand against the Oscars, threatening to boycott over the lack of diversity with this year’s nominees. Ryan Coogler, Ava DuVernay and Janelle Monae are just a few who are putting their money where their mouth is.

The trio are just a few of the celebs who have opted to take their talents 2,300 miles away from the Oscars, to Flint, Michigan, to participate in a benefit event for residents affected by the town’s lead-contaminated water crisis. The free fundraiser is hosted by Hannibal Buress and will be broadcast and streamed on Revolt TV.

Expect to see many more notable names at the event as well, including Ledisi and actor/activist Jesse Williams. It would be dope to see Will and Jada, who have planned to boycott the Oscars, make an appearance in Flint. Only time will tell.
