Steve Nash Announces Retirement

41 year old Steve Nash, who has spent time playing with everyone from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers, has announced his retirement after 19 years in the league. He personally made the announcement via a penned essay titled “Life After Basketball” on The Player’s Tribune.

The greatest gift has been to be completely immersed in my passion and striving for something I loved so much — visualizing a ladder, climbing up to my heroes. The obsession became my best friend. I talked to her, cherished her, fought with her and got knocked on my ass by her,” Nash says of his love for the game. “ I am so thankful. I’ve learned so many invaluable lessons about myself and about life. And of course I still have so much to learn. Another incredible gift.”

The entire essay is pretty awesome. He shares memories of what various players and coaches have taught him, gushes over his family and of course, contemplates what the future has in store for him.

I remember watching Steve Nash play since I was a kid & sad to see him go. Hope retirement treats him well.
