Three Steps To Help You Take Your Leap Of Faith

When we were kids, adults always asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. As we got older, what we “wanted to be” changed a few times, but eventually we settled on what solid thing. So what did you want to be? Are you doing it? If the answer is no, why not?

We recently posted a blog about trusting yourself and I think lack of trust in one’s self is the primary reason that so many people are not following their true calling. Fear of failure literally cripples people daily. Though fear is an emotion that is eminent, it doesn’t have to keep you away from doing what you truly want to do with your life. Here are 3 steps to help you take that leap of faith.

3 – Plan Ahead: When I decided I wanted to become a blogger full time, I knew there would be challenges. How much do bloggers make? How can I maximize my visibility so that I’m not only making enough to survive, but also pushing my brand forward? Where do I need to live? Who do I need to talk to? These are all things you have to consider before just jumping out of the window. I suggest getting a journal and writing down all of your concerns. Every day, take some time to chip away at those concerns by writing down solutions. If you are worried about how much money you need to make to survive, take some time out of your day to see which bills you can decrease or completely do away with. See how much work you need to do in order to make enough to cover certain expenses. Spend every day working on your passion, as you do working on someone else’s. Be careful to not OVER plan to the point that you scare yourself out of pursing your dream. Things won’t be perfect, whether you’re prepared or not.

2 – Research: We are blessed to have social media, Google, Youtube and so many resources at our disposal that we don’t fully utilize. Whatever it is that you want to do, wherever you want to move, whoever you want to meet, use your resources to bring you closer to doing so. If your goal is to become a fashion designer, look into attending conferences and expos where you can network with other like-minded individuals. If you are selling a product, Google to help you research quality vendors. If your passion is to become an entertainer, social media is the perfect place to begin building relationships with people who you may otherwise not have had access to. There’s no excuse to be completely ignorant in any field when we have so many resources at our fingertips.

1 – Just Do It: Far too often we cheat ourselves out of following our passion because when it comes time to do it, we chicken out. Don’t be that person. I decided that one day I was going to quit my comfy 9-5 job at a top Fortune 500 company, relocate to another state, and blog full time. I picked a date on the calendar, and when that date came, I must admit I was a bit scared. It snuck up on me quickly and I had no idea whether I was truly ready to take that leap of faith yet. What if I didn’t plan properly? What if something goes wrong and I’m homeless? Hell, I hadn’t even seen the apartment I was moving into! But I promised myself that procrastination was not going to get the best of me so when that day in 2012 came, I packed my bags in my car and drove 16 hours east and never looked back.

If you really are passionate about doing something, you will find a way to do it. The key is to not give into that aching feeling of fear. Though I’m not the most religious person on the planet, I have taught myself to not give in to fear and that FAITH is the one true thing that gets you through. It’s important to know that there will be bumps in the road but if this is meant for you, you will be seen through it every single time. This is why I keep faith. I have programmed myself to not crumble under pressure because I know that this too shall pass. The positive energy that I put into the universe seems to work, because like clockwork, a blessing comes my way. Keep positive energy no matter what and you will attract positive outcomes.

Don’t be afraid to hear the word “No” or to make adjustments to your original plan. Rejection is part of the entire process. The plan I had originally is not the plan that I ended up going with. Many times I had to make things up along the way, but I’m happy to say that where I am now is far better than I originally planned for.

You can do it too!
