Tyga Believes Relationship with Kylie Jenner Overshadowed His Career – blogged by @MsJennyb

Before his very public on-again, off-again relationship with reality star, Kylie Jenner, Tyga found success within the music industry. The rapper released several mixtapes, including a collaboration with Chris Brown, titled Fan of a Fan, which included the very popular Grammy nominated single, “Deuces.” After signing with Young Money, Tyga had 10 singles chart on Billboard’s Hot 100. However, only one single reached top 10. In February of 2012, Rack City peaked at number seven.

Fast forward to 2014, Tyga dissed his label, declaring  his fourth album was completed, but “held hostage” by Young Money Entertainment. The following year, Tyga released The Gold Album on Spotify and on iTunes three days later. The album garnered 2,200 sales in the first week, according to HotNewHipHop.

Although it’s been rumored that the “Faded” rapper had been dating Jenner since she was 16, the two confirmed their relationship in 2015, after Jenner’s 18th birthday. The relationship sparked controversy in the media regarding the age difference between the two, however, they continued to date until their split in May of 2016. Since then, Tyga has spoken out about the relationship. In an interview with BigboyTv, the rapper discussed the reasons for the break-up and how it overshadowed his career.

“When you’re in a very public relationship like that, it’s hard for other people to see you differently than that,” he said. “Being in that, it took a lot, career-wise, everything. It overshadowed a lot of my talents and a lot of things that I worked hard for.”

“It got to the point where it was like, ‘I respect you, you respect me,’” he said. “When something is so damaged or something is just not right, you can’t fix it in a moment. The only thing is time.”

“Maybe later on in life, maybe we might come back,” the rapper said. “She’s young. When you’re young, you’re going to make mistakes. All of those mistakes are going to be in the public eye so that puts a lot of strain on the relationship. Right now, I want to focus on what I need to do. I just wanted to get back to just me. I think for her as well.”
