Wendy Williams Responds To Aaliyah Movie Backlash

Many anxiously awaited the moment Wendy Williams would speak on the train wreck of a biopic Wendy Williams and the Lifetime network aired on Saturday. Like we expected, Wendy did respond.

“I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend! Errbody got an opinion. Well, I must tell you, whether you love or hate, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far. Not just Lifetime. All of cable.”

To quote Lil Duval on Twitter today, “we also watch crackheads dance, that doesn’t make it good.” For the record, I hate when people who make TV movies use “ratings” as a an accolade. Here’s the thing, the popularity of television series is based on ratings. You can determine if viewers like a particular show if they continue to tune in every week. That’s not the same with a movie that comes on once. People will tune in to it the first time due to curiosity, but that doesn’t mean that it is well received. That’s why movies rely on reviews to determine the public’s thoughts. Let’s just say, I’ve tried and I’ve been unable to find ONE positive review of this movie. Wendy Williams can try and hold on to the “well, you all watched” thing all she wants but when it comes to getting someone to fund the next film project she (or anyone else from this mess) is involved in, the likelihood of getting money is going to be slim. Especially after a swift Google search.

I’m actually disappointed that her response would be “oh well, you watched it” knowing that it was a hot, stinking, flaming, mess that did no service to the memory of the late singer. Then again, I wasn’t expecting her to take any responsibility. An apology to Aaliyah’s family who’ve lost a daughter, a father/husband, and now had to see this hot dookie, would have been nice though.
