What Are Your Thoughts On The Relationship “Break” ?

2014 is already shaping up to be year of the “break.” What’s the break, you ask? The break is when you’re involved in a relationship and for what ever reason, instead of completely breaking up the couple take a break. A break is the purgatory between being in a relationship and being broken up. During the break women are likely to spend time reflecting where they went wrong while men spend that time using it as a free chance to have sex without consequence. Breaks are usually initiated by the woman. The woman who knows that the man did something wrong and she should let him go, but she’s not ready to yet.

These breaks are nothing new. Often times we go through these breaks and have no idea. As women, we will “break up” with a man knowing we have every intention of taking him back as soon as he picks up the phone to apologize. This is considered a break, not a break up. Break ups are permeant. Breaks are temporary and you knew it when you asked him to leave.

What is the purpose of a break? A break is used to repair a relationship without totally giving up on it. Sometimes we use it to prove that we will leave if pushed to that limit. A break is simply a threat that can easily be taken back with the use of a simple “I’m sorry, I promise I’ll change.”

What’s the down side to a break? The down side of a break is when the other party, knowing that this is only temporary and they will attempt to return, uses the time away to do things they wouldn’t do while in the relationship. This includes sleeping with another person, whether protected or not. If you know that you will soon return to the relationship, you should focus on fixing the relationship — not looking for an excuse to sleep with a groupie without it being considered “cheating.”

So what do you guys think of relationship breaks? Are all relationships black and white, all or nothing, or is it possible to successfully take breaks without it ending in a love child?
