Why Do Self Righteous Women Love Olivia Pope?

Let me first begin by letting you know that I am a huge fan of the show Scandal. The show lives up to it's name, that is one thing that is for certain. What I have noticed however, is that women who are normally against side-chicks and infidelity are all for Olivia Pope and her relationship with the very married President.

Explain to me, what is the difference between Olivia Pope and the side-chick you despise so much? Olivia manipulates people to get what she wants, she knowingly seen with a married man and she endangers the jobs and lives of people around her without any regard. In fact, if she didn't hold such a high ranking job (whatever it is she does) you would hate her. If Olivia was a regular girl in her 20's that worked for 7-Eleven you would turn your nose up at her and call her a whore. So what makes Olivia any different? Is it her business suit and her ability to fast talk her way out of any situation? Do we really think that a side-chick mistress is incapable of dressing well and formulating sentences? What makes Olivia anything short of a hood rat that you would bash on the daily?

I sit back and wonder why these uppity women see Olivia Pope as a hero, but the neighborhood hood rat gets shunned. It's because you secretly want to be everything that Olivia Pope is. You see the passion she shares with a man who is forbidden, another woman's husband. It looks good doesn't it? You see the way everyone knows what's going on, but no one will dare say a thing. She gets respect, even as a side chick. You wish it were you but you know, as much hate as you've dished out to the local side chick, if anyone were to hear that you have stooped to the same level, you would never live it down. Secretly you wish you were a side chick too. It totally makes sense, otherwise you would be disgusted by everything Olivia stood for.

It's cool girl, we see you!

I absolutely think it's because Olivia has a high powered job and does it well, that self-righteous women give her an automatic pass. They see themselves in her and let's be honest, they probably are her. I wonder how they felt when Fritz played that ass last episode. Did they feel shame for rooting for her and see her get played like that? Anywhoo, double standard, women aren't above being azzholes and having them as well.

I cheer for her because I think her characters heart is in the right place even if she does wrong from time to time. I realize that sometimes in life its not as simple as the harlot endlessly pursuing after the happily married man. Sometimes two people just get caught up and they make a poor decision. Sometimes its difficult to walk away. Not saying its ok by any means, because its not. But that also doesn't make her the scum of the earth. When I hear about real life situations like that I try not judge women because I generally have no idea what got them in to that situation in the first place. Maybe they were misled? Maybe they were lied to? Maybe they just got weak and fell for a taken man? Who knows! Like I said, nearly all women have been in this place whether they realize it or not, next time you think youre perfect--try walking on water.

She appears to have Fitz's best interest ahead of her own, she's not there for a come up nor is she actively trying to replace Mellie, so she doesn't seem to be too much of a threat, she's never thrown her blatant disrespect for their marriage in Mellie's face, she tries just as hard to keep it covered, and Fitz needs her just as much as she wants him. Face it, if my man were cheating and I had to pick the lessor of two evils, I'd rather he cheat with Olivia than Kat Stacks

And I agree with Eleven8, I think if some of these women could successfully get away with being the side chick of a powerful women, they try it. Shoot, I would, Lol.

I think for me it was this black women having such a powerful white man but that was in the begining if the writers don't be careful they will have Olivia looking like a slore. I pray the writers don't mess this show up because I'm loving the show right now.

The president is definitely an attractive man, especially for a white man but he is married and his wife is crazy. Nobody has time for that. And now we see that it has all backfired on her. Smh. I think people really enjoy her relationship with the president because it's about a White man who wants to be with a Black woman. You don't see that on TV every day. That's the real reason why people are accepting of this.
